How do you feel about these vtubers that try to be unique and "innovative"? These people popped up on my feed, at some point I feel like you should just make a damn cartoon instead. It also just feels kind of insulting being like see I'm different I'm not like other vtubers and it feels like they're appropriating something that isn't a part of their culture, vtubing is very much a otaku culture thing.

>>113837824I wouldn't mind a model looking like something Bruce Timm drew, or something like manhwa, or even Holli Would and Jessica Rabbit, but too westernized models are kinda cringe and ugly looking.
>>113837901Most of these still relate to weeb culture.
>>113837945I don't like the cringe tumblr style some of those 1view indies have.
>>113837945I agree, it isn't that western style models are ugly by definition, it's just that the people who make/use them suck and are annoying.
>>113838028Gonna be honest, I never like him or his "model"
>>113838026Examples?
>>113837824It's extremely hard to make a Live2d model in a non-anime style look good. Not impossible, but hard. I've seen a few that look decent.
>>113838028hell yeah peanut gods
>>113837824>>113838198Works for Vedal.
for male vtubers at least it seems non-anime style is the only way to not look like a cringe predator
>>113838315This is how females see other females who are prettier than them btw.
>>113837945i gooned so much to btas/btnas bat girl as a kid.
>>113838254Thats an anime turtle though.
>>113837824The way I see it is there's 2 types of people. Those that think vtubing started with kizuna Ai, and those that think technically the annoying orange is a Vtuber. The former will want the scene to be more anime inspired, the latter doesn't mind more cartoonish out there stuff. It depends on who you ask.Personally, I want somewhere in the middle. It's seen as a Japanese thing but even then there are different anime styles. I hate the generic anime girl/boy #421 design that's quite present in most vtubers, but I'm not that open-minded to the aggressively western cartoon style or the burntpeanuts.I prefer something in the middle, something that to me is true innovation. A Japanese/anime type of design that isn't the generic ones, maybe a cool art style or even non-human designs like the few in nijisanji. We desperately need more non-human vtubers that aren't just a humanoid with a bit of creature features. Go weird, but keep within the style and general premise. Otherwise you're just a cartoon tuber. That's why vtubing is an umbrella term, there's now pngtubers and the like to actually differentiate them more. Sometimes it stretches to a point it just needs to be it's own thing.
>>113837824I like them as side/bonus models, also, this >>113837945
>>113838828 (Me)
>>113838828>>113838847These are cute and chibified, so it kinda still falls in the "anime" style, but I get what you mean.
>>113837824Stop gatekeeping, you whiny bitch.
>>113837824In the image, the left 3 are very unattractive and I wouldn't even click just to check it out. Problem is most (that i've seen) of those who use these kinds of models are weirdos with flags/pronouns in their bio on bluesky

>>113838954Harley is so hot
>>113837824>muh culture Unironically, kill yourself.
imo vtubing has grown as a niche to the point where subniches are starting to become a thingthat's where a lot of the discourse is coming from; the definition of what makes a vtuber is evolving into something more of an umbrella term with its own subnichesbut we're in that growing pain phase where people can't agree on what exactly that umbrella term is on a technical level with that all being said, those who scream "muh culture!" i can guarantee you are the same people who don't give a fuck about anthropology outside of japan, so you'll have to excuse me if I can't be arsed to take them seriously id rather actually not be referred to as a vtuber if it means those obnoxious fans would stay away from me and my communityif that type of behavior is considered your "culture", then I want absolutely nothing to do with it-a non-traditional vtuber
