Imagine a belligerent black man on public transportation that deliberately acts aggressive and provocative to the other passengers. If the other passengers do nothing then the black man feels powerful and more important than others; soothing his own insecurities of weakness. If the other passengers do stand up to him, he now has an excuse to chimp out and get violent. It's not a coincidence that successfully doing this also soothes his insecurity about weakness.
