I hate it, I really hate when vtubers drop things that are iconic to their look. If this really is Sora new default outfit, I’m seriously considering dropping Sora as my kamioshi, the outfit is so fucking generic and look like just a Holofest outfit. The lack of blue is disgusting, she’s always been associated with a clear blue sky, why the fuck are they removing that connection? Just imagine how awful she will look now when put against a blue sky. Her star with ribbon was her symbol, why the fuck are they removing it? While I prefer her "old" default outfit, I don't mind this one. It IS a tad generic but Sora's charm is being surprisingly cute/passionate while appearing like the "normal" one, which is something the outfit helps emphasise. Additionally, I think the hair change/the stronger use of black and white helps to establish her becoming more mature (in other words evolving).
Finally I think her having sleeves as a default is nice as it further helps to reinforce her "maturing"/evolving due to Cover being unable to give her sleeves initially.

welp, got my answer. But when seeing her on screen with some of the other girls recenly, she did stand out a tad. Facially. That was both good, and bad. Somehow now I think she meshes better with the overall look of everyone else. There's +'s and -'s to that, of course, loosing a unique trait and all is bad, but so is looking like a dinosaur compared with the new girls.
If that's right that the new look was designed to be more modern and fit in with everyone else then that's a good thing for her because I was getting the impression, when this thought came to mind, that she looked a little archaic compared with her kouhai somehow. Not anons who complained but this model is different from her other ones. This model is replacing her other ones (or at the very least it is replacing her default model). That outfit has been associated with Sora for the better part of 7 years( and even then the model it replaced was extremely similar). This new default is a radical shake up. Additionally, with the other models she got, they weren't the new default and thus she could switch out them whenever. However, with this model, she will have it as her only model for a while which makes the fact that it is so different hurt more.

Last night's stream confirmed that this is a full rebrand. She has a new logo and her stream assets (intro, outro, scene transitions too most likely) will be changing to match the new her new visual direction. I think this is actually more accurate than many realize.
Recently, it feels like Japan has been trying to move away from anime and fun character designs to more realistic styles. I really don't like it.
Kizuna Ai tried to do this same thing too when she came back.
Looking at the Ocarina of Time remake, you see the same thing. For whatever reason, Japan seems to be moving away from stylized expression into a more generic style. I suspect maybe it's because they have been wrongly told by western consultation groups that Japanese designs would be more popular around the world if they were changed to be less anime-like and stylized and instead be more modest and realistic.
It's really unfortunate.
