Plus lots of people there were also attending VexPo which was literally across the road so they would have had cosplays ready for that. Shondo wanted to go to VexPo but the staff fucked her over despite her attendance and her overwhelming positive reception in the previous year's convention. The organisers this year apparently all different people and ghosted her emails for months about attending. It's obvious someone there is some tranny leftist who just doesn't like her and was hoping they could de facto blacklist her until she blasted them on twitter and only then they replied saying she wasn't invited. Some of her fans had already booked hotels and flights under the assumption it was just a miscommunication and it would be wrapped up. It's also one the very few conventions she can actually go to since it's local to her, so she both felt extremely guilty that people had potentially thousands to see her and now they wouldn't, and she was really sad she lost one of the very few opportunities to meet her fans.So, on a whim, she went and organised her own convention. Anybody who wanted to come could, it was free of charge, and she hand baked treats. Everyone was given time to speak to her, she even allowed people to speak to her more than once if they wanted. Apparently VexPo is more of a shitshow in terms of organisation than it was last year, people saying it took over 3 hours to just get their badges. Some people even left the VexPo queue and just went across the road to chill at Shoncon insteadSo I think Shondo deserves some massive credit for putting her fans first despite nothing about the situation being her fault, footing the bill herself, and somehow having it just all work out and everybody being happy. Except VexPo which now might have a small, but annoying competitor.
