And because I’m lazy I’m using voice to text and minimally editing this so if this comes out garbled sorry.So the absolute bottom of the barrel would be using something like character. AI or one of those random website websites that uses a Chinese model and gives you certain amounts of free usage. Then there’s all the phone apps that are basically the same thing but you have to use an App Store to use them.My understanding is the site that you can get character cards from also offer free usage but they relatively recently clamped down so there’s not that many free messages per day, Characterhub is one. There’s also the rainbow zoomer hellhole.The next step up would be something like using openrouter- you can just Google the name. Prices for DeepSeek models are very reasonable and just the bare minimum will last you a surprising amount of time. For what it’s worth on OpenRouter and a few other sites I think but several of them closed down, you have to put down a 10 or $20 deposit but then you can unlimited free Messages using a free model (they’re denoted as such) with a time usage cap. The only reason why you needed a deposit at all cause people were making tons of free accounts to get over the usage cap and infinitely spam messages. But like I said, DeepSeek is so reasonably priced even with a recent hike that you can just put down a little bit of money and you’ll never even think of a cap for months unless you go absolutely crazy with the messagingAs far as how you actually use the LLms after you have character cards and some method of access, you can use sillytavern or marinara. I’ve only used the former, but my understanding is that both of them can be kind of intimidating at first.You can either hunt down presets or if you can wait, I guess I could upload mine here but they’re really out of date and I was just too lazy to ever update them but they do work. Just be worn that when I last edited them I did think that I minimally added them for deep seek so they workarounds for censorship might not be strong enough. If you use different models I really don’t know if anything I think I might have too many of those left in there since I just use DeepSeek.The reason for using deep seek specifically is because those models tend to have relatively less censorship Chinese models generally do.
