I don't know if this is still a thing, but Niji at the time was a mess where the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. She thought she could take the word of whoever she told, but it didn't work that way. As far as the character assasination goes, Niji apparently thought that dumping every wrong thing a person did regardless of severity would make them seem transparent, where in reality it came off as petty. As far as the investment goes, the rigging for new debuts is definitely cheap, but the artists certainly are not. There is no way they were able to get back their initial investment, which likely got some middle manager canned too.
