When other people that post think they're doing a bad job they will sometimes try to 'steal' it from them by posting first. The idea is their thread will have a different vibe because they picked a better image and reply and post differently. So when there's someone who's been challenging the regular OP they'll start posting super early to make sure no one takes it. Sometimes it's just about keeping control and sometimes it's out of a fear that the other OP is doing a better job and might actually take the general over for real.
