Don't bother reading if you don't care about the Rise of the Ronin playthrough.As long as we're on the topic, I've never played this game, so I have no idea where the story goes, but I thought about how it should probably go and I'm sure I will be disappointed because Koei Tecmo have never written a good story in any of their games in 30 fucking years.Basically, we know there's this Blue Oni person working with the Americans. We heard there was a Red Oni as well, but we haven't met them yet and don't know their allegiance. I assume the Blue Oni, after "killing" Moco-chan, spared her and trained her, along with the Americans giving her a robot arm during the 5 years she had been missing. So Moco-chan is working with the Americans and Blue Oni, and so historically, that'd put her on the side of the pro-foreigner shogunate. The same shogunate that killed your village.It bothered me that the Bladesmith, who was basically your and Moco-chan's adoptive mother figure and sensei, decided that you should die or have to kill her after the village was destroyed. Like bitch, there is no village left to leave. I'm sure the game will never explain this.So instead of whatever dumb story the game is going to tell, what they should have done is eventually reveal that the Bladesmith's missing Blade Twin was the Red Oni... and also the Blue Oni. In other words, they were triplets. This could have been a really cool twist and explained more of the central conflict of the story. It would also explain why the Blue Oni knew about the Blade Twins program and took over Mococo's training.Since Japan was changing so quickly, Blue Oni wanted to use their Twin Blade abilities to interfere with the political happenings of the era, which went against their vows to their village and master or something. The Blue Oni understood that the only way they would survive would be to embrace change and work with the Foreigners. The Red Oni disagreed and the Green Oni, your Bladesmith, was caught in the middle. This would serve to echo the real-life backdrop of the story, the Japanese Revolution and Boshin war, and make it much more personal.The Red and Blue Oni fight and go their seperate ways, which left the Green Oni as the only one left to train the next generation of Twin Blades, Fuwawa and Mococo. And that should be where the game starts. All of this should be revealed way later in the game when the Red and Blue Oni become the central antagonists.The Red Oni should be different from the Blue Oni in that she is a manipulator and prefers tactical and strategic battles, instead of direct conflicts and her abilities should reflect that and be a foil to the blue Oni's combat prowess. When the Red Oni sees that Mococo was "killed", she could have seen that as an opportunity to destroy the village, because she came to the conclusion the Blade Twin program was too powerful and should not be allowed to continue to exist. So the Red Oni somehow uses her abilities to spiritually posses her sister to try and kill Fuwawa, but Fuwawa unexpectedly beats her former master and leaves the village, seeking revenge on who she thinks destroyed the village: the Blue Oni and Shogunate.The Twin Blade program falling apart because triplets were born into the village is also good thematic irony.I think this would have been a way cooler story that would establish the different factions. In real life, the Tokugawa shogunate loses to the samurai class and Emperor, who then decide to embrace working with the foreigners anyways. The story could explain this historically bizarre politics as the player works through the conflict with the Red and Blue Oni and Japan adopts the philosophy of both characters because of Fuwawa's actions.Instead, this is a Koei Tecmo game and so I know the writing will be trash.
