Almost all other software worth using is just running ffmpeg under the hood. That said, there are a handful of programs like handbrake and shutter encoder that are decent front end guis from what I can tell

Figuring out how to wrangle it directly is a bit of a slog desu, but it builds character

Ah, I see what you're talking about. You should be able to do that, there are a few filters that can be applied to adjust the pitch/tempo of the audio, just be warned that if what you're trying to manipulate also contains video, you'll need to adjust that too. E.g.,

ffmpeg -i input.webm -filter_complex "[0:v]setpts=0.8*PTS[v];[0:a]asetrate=48000*1.25,aresample=48000[a]" -map "[v]" -map "[a]" -b:a 128k output.webm

The values for asetrate and aresample should be the sample rate of your video, and the values multiplying setpts and asetrate need to be inverse to keep the audio and video in sync. Also, transcoding tends to drop the quality so setting -b:a to the bitrate of your video helps to mitigate that.

Pretty sure I can just strip out the video file and put back a jpg on loop.
I saw someone suggest the more efficient way was to swap the base frequency from 48k to 56k which retains the values.
My initial experiments suggest that a simple speed up is not achieving the chipmunk effect on output common to nightcored music suggesting there's some sort of pitch manipulation

Likely so, using an image on loop is certainly better in most cases here. I haven't done much of this myself so I don't know what'll work best, but play around with it until you get something that feels right
