For Windows, wsl is very convenient.
You can use it for yt-dlp, FFmpeg, and Bash scripts.

For Android, YTDLnis is a very good yt-dlp app, with good customisation and a clean UI.
You can run FFmpeg and Bash scripts on Android via Termux.

I've been using a simple FFmpeg wrapper Bash script for these encodes, just for convenience:

Maybe someone will find this useful.
It gives me the input and output directory file listings, computes the target video bitrates for 4chan, and prompts me for the params that I use most (so I don't need to remember the exact FFmpeg option syntax).

Regarding params, I've been making H.264 (MP4) encodings, usually with a 360p resolution (sometimes higher res or res copy for shorter clips), mostly 30 FPS (I will copy to match the frame count if the FPS is already close to 30, but I think that I broke that rule at least once), the 6 MB audio copy video bitrate (or 6 MB 128k audio video bitrate, if the video bitrate would be way too low otherwise), effort level "0" (max effort), and usually audio copy (re-encode for non-AAC codecs, 128k for large audio streams).

So something like this in vanilla FFmpeg:
-c:v libx264 -s 640x360 -r 30 -b:v 250k -preset veryslow -c:a copy

Someone with more FFmpeg experience can probably give you better recommendations.

Obviously not a fair test due to the resolution difference, but comparing the segment from 1:38 to 1:48 in both encodings kinda shows what I've observed with VP9.
It struggles with stuff that's too dynamic, which is part of the reason why most of my encodings have just been H.264 MP4s for these MADs filled with visual action.
VP9 WebM seems to work well for this specific video, because it's kinda like a slideshow.

Yes, generally speaking h264 is better in high noise environments. vp9 really struggles to compress film grain and high motion. It's a popular myth that vp9 is objectively the best format for this board but it's more of a case by case basis with vp9 being the good default to try first.
However, opus is generally better at the same bitrate than aac, you get more bang for your buck on the audio side so that is something to keep in mind for music videos.

It's hard to recommend music since there's too much of it in all genres, from electronic to metal. Many circles also release music in different genres, often within the same album. I can list the most prominent circles/artists (in my opinion), but you're probably better off listening to one of these online touhou radio stations picking whatever your fancy.

As for manga, Wild and Horned Hermit and Forbidden Scrollery are good in their own ways. Art in WaHH is a bit off in the beginning, but it gets better early on. Silent Sinners in Blue is decent, but probably too confusing for beginners (lots of enigmatic dialogues and monologues and little action). I haven't read Lotus Eaters and Cheating Detective Satori yet but these are ongoing series you can jump on to quickly assimilate on /jp/ (may not be worth it since /jp/ is pretty much dead).

Not quite, she's from the PV for SOUND HOLIC's Shuwa Spa Daisakusen. It didn't have anything to do with Cookie but was more or less co-opted because of the drink drugging part and lack of SIK/YMN material at the time. I guess it's not too out of place in MADs since the artstyle in the original Cookie project changes from scene to scene.

Sure, the animations are used to represent YMN all the time, no questions about that. I think I've only seen one video that treats her as separate from YMN, and even then I could be misremembering. I'm saying that it's not YMN in the sense that she wasn't the one doing the singing and being portrayed in the source PV. I was also saying that the PV "wasn't" Cookie, that the association came from the community and not from Nana Takahashi/SOUND HOLIC when they put out the song and PV, but the question of whether or not a given Touhou work is "Cookie" can get pretty nebulous.

Highly doubt YMN's cover has been posted before, and I can't find any signs of the original getting posted in /wsg/ either. If you encoded the original it would double as a Touhou PV for the other thread.

I'm not the original anon who uploaded the NYN webm collection, I simply reuploaded it, combining with my own encodes, this is also why only two videos from this thread are there (I've encoded these two myself). I can upload the rest of videos from this thread there too, it's just wiser to do so when the image limit is reached. If any of you have other packs with videos, I can upload these too, just give me the link. You can also feel free to re-host everything from the folder elsewhere yourself.
