i'm going to confess, as i get older i very rarely go back to my teenage cd of chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavoured water and think "ya know, this is actually pretty good even though i stopped listening a very long time ago".

hilarious how cypress hill epically failed in their attempt to go "nu-metal/rock". god it was bad.
last decent album of theirs was IV.

i think this band more than any one other single thing was responsible for the downfall of numetal.
like just all the whiny shit. it was so gross. and so overplayed.
>>
>>6229020
The fact that this song sounds like it was shat out from the first ideas that popped into their heads with no working out process and is way too simple to justify going longer than 2:45 but clocks in at 4:42 are way bigger problems than the lyrics.
>>
I want nu metal to come back man.
>>
>>6229020
nu metal was all whiny though
it was all about monetising pubertal angst, marketed straight to horny hormonal male teens
its really not very different to britney spears, christina aguilera, etc, whom were there to monetise oestrogen from hormonal female teens
i liked nu metal a lot at the time but in retrospect man it all feels so vapid, fake and commercial

Yes and no. Mostly yes, but still some no.
Sepultura, for example, is classified as numetal. Pretty sure Mudvayne and Drowning Pool both count. Slipknot was basically the apex predator of numetal and they rapped on their first album, ffs.
Most of these guys are one- or two-hit wonders that managed to hang on a lot longer than they deserved to because they were being pushed. Like you say. But they're not the whiniest bunch. Not in the same way, e.g., Korn was, or Linkin Park, or Staind, or Disturbed.
What the fuck was Disturbed? They had one good song in like '01 or '02 and them faggots were on the radio for like eight solid years.
But yeah
>pubertal angst
Guy has like a 3 minute meltdown screaming at his mother. I liked that song until i heard that shit.

disagree, his post was pointing out how this shit was marketed at us:
>monetising pubertal angst
is fuckin spot on.
it's all blatant programming. spice girls for e.g.: "come on girls, be strong little independent sluts who don't need no man, just their frieeends GIRL POWER".
except women irl all hate each other and bitch about each other constantly.
you know the beatles were a cia asset right? and the whole "faul" thing?
it's nothing new.
it's powerful mind control.
same way old soap operas triggered the monkey see monkey do effect for societal conditioning.
films - the same.
basically all types of (((media))) is and always was fucking fake and gay.

It's hard to find niche nu metal bands. It's even harder to really define nu metal. A lot of it is basically rap metal

Most of it morphed into alternative metal and dropped all the hip hop/horrorcore elements. It's kind of a shame because Korn's first two albums were amazing.

>Static-X, which isn't a great band to begin with
I think they kinda got the short end of the stick. Wisconsin Death Trip was a great album for 1999. They just never evolved or became anything else. Well, the music itself did, but Wayne didn't Until he became dead.
And now they got some asshole that sounds just like him playing dress up and doing shows and shit.
The whole situation's kind of weird.
>>
>>6229579
Yeah they had an interesting sound, and Wisconsin Death Trip isn't terrible. I listen to it every now and then.

Replacing Wayne was definitely a questionable move. At least with Linkin Park, the name is kind of bigger than the band.

Disturbed lead singer is jewish, too, and loooooooves Israel.
>>

yeah. i only ever liked down with the sickness, but that wore off quick with how much it got overplayed back then. then I saw some concert where he stopped the show and pointed out some guy in the pit and had him booted for moshing. And then another one where he gave some speech about racism or some shit and I was just like fuck all this noise.
even staind. like they weren't even that good to begin with, but four solid years of FAAAADDE AWAAYY IT'S BEEN A WHILE RIGHT HERE WAITING every fifteen minutes retroactively ruined everything for me.
metallica's another one. i've been into them since i was a kid. that's a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. just nothing after the black album. i didn't even like the black album when it came out, but everything from load and onward made it seem alright by comparison. but then i ended up sitting next to a guy at work and for like six solid years this fucker had a 256MB thumb drive filled with 32k mp3s and metallica was one of the bands and he only ever played it through his shitty 2000s laptop with horrible speakers.
sorry for the blog. it made me think of a few bands i used to like but now i hate and can't listen to except for one song.

Machine is a fucking masterpiece and thats an end on it. The new replacement singer is keeping the spirit of Wayne living with the mask and also adding his own personal flavor to the songs. Doing the best while respecting the original.
>>
>>6230242
I still crank up both of stainless famous songs. They were too me the soundtrack of my teens and I liked them enough that it doesnt bother me how overplayed they were. I get how bad it is because my local rock radio station still plays 3 doors down , queens of the stone age and fucking the Spiderman man song with the saliva guy for years. Got sick of that fast.
>>
>>6230587
Had no idea he played guitar, kinda. He looks like a baby.
>>
>>6231075
Most nu-metal sucks. It sounds like the type of thing low-IQ white trash listens to. Korn and Limp Bizkit got around because they had producers edit their tracks like they were sampling hip hop albums.
>>
>>6231050
I mean thats kind of their trademark
>>
>>6231052
It's a tribute album. The vocalist of Snot died and was apparently a pretty cool guy so all these numetal dudes came together to sing on some unfinished tracks IIRC
>>

>>
>>6231086
>because my local rock radio station
Radio used to be a part of life. By the 90s, it was already a sickening, corporatized veneer covering a mechanism that exists solely to deliver ads. If they could figure out a way to get you to listen to nothing buts ads, they would.
I just went and checked the radio station I grew up listening to. WRIF - Detroit Rock Radio.
https://wrif.com/stream/WRIFFM/
I do that from time to time just to keep up with what's new.
The playlist is largely unchanged from when I was a teen. I suspect it's probably the same as (or incredibly similar to) the playlist from every other rock radio station in the country.
You got your classics; the staples: AC/DC, Aerosmith, Ozzy, Crue, VH, Seger, Maiden, etc. But only "approved" songs, meaning only the handful of songs that everybody has already heard 50 million times. Never a random b-side, never a lesser-known song that's still good or even just alright. Just the same songs over and over.
Then there's the grunge and assorted 90s-00s garbage they just refuse to let go of. Pearl Jam, Gorillaz, Marilyn Manson, Staind. Weezer ffs. Collective Soul? Who the fuck has ever liked Collective Soul?
Chevelle shows up. It's the only two of their songs this station plays. They've been playing them for years, with both coming off a 2002 album. Never any others. They both show up in this 24hr list.
Then, in between all that, and a commercial break every 2-4 songs, is a smattering of Current Thing, whatever that happens to be.
It's been that way for decades.
I quit listening to over-the-air radio as soon as bluetooth became a thing and I could afford to cram a BT-capable stereo into my shitbox.
>>
>>6228559

>Paying 30 dollars for an album
It was like £13 in the UK. Very agreeable price imo.

I actually miss buying CDs. It was an experience in itself. You'd set the date for the album release, would be all hyped for it, get on the bus and head down there, it would feel so good just holding the jewel case in your hands, like yes, it's finally here. Then you'd peruse the other CDs for a bit, looking at all the rad edgy metal album art, maybe bumping into an artist your friend had mentioned or one you were interested in checking out, and end up buying another CD or two randomly. Maybe get a poster in the rack, too. They were good times. Sure the internet is nice how it allows us to get whatever we want whenever we want but because of that you lose novelty. Having to steal my older brother's Offspring's 'Smash' album made it feel so much more valuable than what we have today. Like now I might hear a song I like and can download their entire discography in minutes, and it's all just digital, nothing you can hold in your hand. It sort of diminishes the experience for me.

Also, maybe it's just me getting older, but I can't be asked to discover new music anymore, whereas when I was younger I was always looking out for new stuff. It's ironic that now I could find endless new music easily and yet I just don't care for it. Maybe the unlimited choice the internet offers me plays into that but I'm really not sure. I could just not care anymore. I wonder what I'd be into if I was 14 years old today.
>>
>>6232123
sounds like you'll probably remember MVC then. you could listen to the cds on headphones before you bought them, like they used to do in vinyl shops where you could spin the vinyl on the decks at the back and have a listen.
still got my white-label congo natty vinyls from back then.
>Maybe get a poster in the rack, too.
poster racks haha damn. you'll probably remember this place too - i used to buy lingerie/etc posters from Athena (r.i.p. in piece). still got an old ashtray i bought there when i was 15 or something. oh and an old beer bottle opener ring. not any posters though, those are looong dead.

good times. still got my copy of akira i bought from MVC, has the akira sticker sheets on the inside sleeve untouched and everything.

change "image" to whatever the image filename is, same for the music file.
>>6232088
ffmpeg -i music.mp4 -b:v 1000k output.mp4

I was a fan the moment I heard them. They are probably my favorite band of all time, and I also usually shy away from ultra famous bands because they always seem to turn into sellouts.
>>
>>6232571
On subsequent listens, I love the concept of mixing two conflicting ideas, but the song comes off as a song about domestic abuse. However, I did look further into it and it's about being in a crowd and longing for a girl (at least according fan lore from unreliable sources) , but I still can't see it. I do like the singing. It's especially strange the track is called Bleeder on an album called Violence, but has absolutely nothing to do with either. Very confusing imagery if that unrequited love in a crowded room is, indeed, the real meaning.
>>6232578
I like the energy and transitions on this one, but lyrics still seem a bit confusing between a pain or betrayal likely infidelity and the lines keep it up kid.
What's your take on this song in particular?
