Tech support question.I've updated my bios and now the pc freezes on the motherboard loading screen. The one after bios. It doesn't matter if I'm booting to windows or a usb. I can't boot to anything, but I can still get into the bios. I've tried 4 different bios versions now. Nothing works. It was working fine before the bios update( other than some small quirks I was hoping the update would fix). Chatgpt troubleshooting is pushing towards the idea that the bios update revealed a hardware degradation flaw that is apparent now during os initialization, but it just seems so weird that it worked fine before the bios update. I've tried cmos reset, disconnecting all other drives, etc. No dice. Any helpers?
Is there even a motherboard loading screen? I'm only aware of bios screen then Windows loading screen.Try the cmos reset again with it disconnected from the power wall for about a minute exactly like that.If that don't work and you still can't get into bios, not sure what to tell you if you're doing it correctly. Might need a new motherboard.
>>1565878Sorry, to clarify. I CAN get into bios. It just doesn't actually boot (windows or even into a USB). The mobo screen I meant where it gets stuck is after the initial one where you get a chance to go into bios. then it's a loading screen with the motherboard logo and a loading symbol. But yeah, it's starting to look like hardware failure of some sort.
>>1565902If you disconnect all drives, does it give you an error about no boot device?
>>1565953Yes
>>1565873Find the literal first bios that was ever released for the board and flash it. The only way I can think of that a bios update could actually damage hardware is if someone put the wrong voltage settings as default for what it's meant to be running, and it essentially fried something on boot up. if that's true then it would be manufacturer neglect, if you could prove it.btw NEVER update your bios unless there is a 100% good reason to do so.
>>1565956Have you confirmed the USB is bootable on another PC?Does it have an optical drive you can try to boot from?Have you checked the USB is before the HDD in the boot sequence in the bios?Have you disabled pxe boot in the bios?
>>1565960>Have you confirmed the USB is bootable on another PC?Yep, tested it on a mini PC I have just to be sure. Boots into the windows installer fine. >Does it have an optical drive you can try to boot from? No. >Have you checked the USB is before the HDD in the boot sequence in the bios?Yes, you can even manually click the choice you want to boot from for just a temporary single boot. >Have you disabled pxe boot in the bios?Yes, I've messed around with all sort of combinations of settings. This was when I didn't realize it wouldn't boot to any device because maybe the windows installation wasn't matching things after the bios reset. The fact I can go to factory defaults and not get it to boot to a usb is indicating it's not a bios setting issue.I think the fact I built the pc over 5 years ago, and that it had some issues already (which I was trying to troubleshoot with the bios update in the 1st place) is good enough to go ahead and just build a new pc. I could gamble and hope a new mobo fixes it, I've also seen people with similar issues say a new cpu fixed it for them. Rather than sink hundreds of dollars into it, I'll just go ahead with a new build as I was planning to do it in a year or so anyway. Thanks for all your help. I will never update my bios again.
