I currently have a Thinkpad E560 that's 10 years old and is starting to shit out on me in a number of ways so I'm in the market to buy a new one.
All I really do on it is scroll the web, answer emails/write docs, and play dvds so I don't need some behemoth of a laptop as a replacement. I'm looking for budget friendly options, preferably in the $250-300; I'm open to buying used, I just don't know ways to do it smartly without get shafted.
I'd like to stick with Thinkpads since they're known for longevity and I like the size of the screen I currently have (15.6") but if another brand would fit my price range and wants I'd be open. I've heard good things about the T14 but considering it's only 2 years older than mine I question if it would even be worth it considering how mine is dying now
Any recs for models or advice for buying used?

I haven't looked, but I assume absolutely nothing on the market supports that anymore. Most current tower models don't even have slots for them anymore. What does exist is cheap USB DVD drives

Oh I'm well aware of that, I was just listing off things I like about the laptop I currently have. Buying a disk drive is not a big deal and I anticipate having to do it. I just wanted to mention I play dvds a lot in case, for some dumb reason, a recommended laptop wouldn't run it. I'm not a tech guy so I wanted to cover my bases. I also don't want any AI shit on it

I don't recommend being a luddite in 2026. It's not a matter of personal taste.
