I was going to get myself a elgato HD60 X but while the descriptions say it can record in 1440p none of the reviews mention it. I want to record video game stuff and I don't know what to get. Also eyeing elgato 4K S. I just want something that is relatively retard proof to use and can do 1440p 60fps
I have messed with capture cards quite a bit and I'm pretty tech savvy and I'm going to give you a heads up to be prepared for any sort of usb connected capture cards headaches and I'm not trying to tell you not to go with Elgato because Elgato and NZXT are the most reliable brands (I haven't tried Avermedia stuff but I guess they are equivalent in reliability). The fucking things can act up from one moment to the next but generally if you get them up and running they will be stable for at least a couple months/years until all of a fucking sudden they start bugging out.Just letting you know that's the case and you may want to consider a pci-e one for even more stability but they have their own drawbacks. In either case do yourself a favor and use OBS and avoid their software if you can.
>>1567221I'm open to pci-e ones too, just don't know shit about them as well. Budget wise I'm willing to go up to 200 euros. I've been using a cracked version of bandicam, works well enough
>>1567222What are your specs?
>>1567223So far I think the 4k S is probably your best bet
>>1567223>i9 9900ks >rtx 3090 >64gb ram ddr4Motherboard is an msi z390 pro carbon something. Older games I can record fine without a capture card but in newer ones I get noticeable dips
>>1567225Ok, so your specs aren't an issue which is good. You record your own pc gameplay? In my experience using your pc to capture itself is the most optimal way of recording pc gameplay.Even with a capture card you're going to eat up some resources just handling the card and it shouldn't be much more than you'd use if you use nvenc to record with a newer card. I imagine a 3090 wouldn't have much of an issue with that because even my 2070 could record gameplay with very low hit on my performance. To be honest though, I didn't extensively capture my own desktop, I mostly capture cable tv and stuff like that. Are you using nvenc? I've played with Bandicam but does it even give you those options to select whether using a gpu encoder or software?
>>1567226I've been recording my own pc yeah, gameplay and cutscenes. I'm also saving the recordings on a HDD I don't know if that matters. I have SSDs but I don't want to rape them with recordings. I thought a capture card would overall lessen the load on the rest of the system. I get dips in demanding games but that doesn't make it unplayable either, was thinking a capture card could greatly lessen thatBandicam does give the nvenc option
>>1567228Well, it seems you know what you're doing so much too much more I can tell you that you aren't aware of.I'm not sure if you just don't like OBS or if there's something (user interface?) that keeps you with Bandicam software, but I would suggest you at least play with OBS to see if it can help you out with the performance issues before you get the card or at least get you set up to where if you get the card you're no better off.It might be possible that it's something related to Bandicam just choking for whatever reason because some software does just suck (I'm sure you know this) but I wouldn't just say that about Bandicam, I know they're pretty reputable and I didn't really hate them when I played with their stuff. But it might be something for example related a configuration option it doesn't allow you to change that OBS might. OBS does have a lot of options and if you can even with Bandicam experiment with using the SSD and maybe even disable the HDD drive while recording to see if that isn't just making your whole system bug out for certain moments and interfering with the recording.Just things to check out. I guess bottom line is I would like to give you a heads up and not be surprised if you spend money on the card and still have the same problem or a similar problem.
>>1567229I'm just an autist who sticks with what I know, bandicam has just werked for me in the past so I figured I'd keep using it. I'll try out OBS. I've been avoiding demanding activities on my pc because of the hell heat so I probably won't be trying right away, few more days before the weather cools down. In case I decide to get a capture card after trying things out, would the 4k S be the one to try out ?
>>15672324k S is definitely a solid contender so yeah it'd be a good choice. If you have some issues with it, remember I've played with quite a bit of cards and just about all of them need some fiddling with at some point.
>>1567233Thanks for the help
>>1567234Anytime!
