That's a terrible reason. It's a lot of money, do you have some sort of written paperwork? You can threaten to send him to collections if he doesn't start making regular payments. You don't actually want to involve collections, that costs money. But it's a legal threat.
I nudged a friend I loaned money to by telling him our agreed monthly interest would drop to zero if he paid off __ amount that month. I never loaned him money to earn interest. The interest was supposed to be his motivator to pay me back, haha, of course he just ignored it for a year and a half

Oh. Well blackmail isn't very good, for that much just threaten to burn his house down (possibly with him or his family in it). You can pay someone $1000 to have that done remotely, and you don't have to do it, if he pays you

If you're already doing enough crimes to warrant getting almost $200k in pay, what more is some fucking blackmail? I mean come on. Also, blackmail won't work - you might have proof of him doing "shameful" things, but he can turn right around and say "you've comitted x crime for money". No win scenario, pick your clients or partners better, and if you really want to go after him, just do it. You're already breaking the law, breaking the law a little more shouldn't be any kind of a leap.

What type of illegal work are we talking? Hacking, fraud, theft, murder...? You don't have to say exactly, but if I know the vague sphere of crime you two were in and your relationship (business partner, client, etc.) I could give you better advice. I'm guessing you're either UK or Australia? Your country of origin would help too, there might be legal loopholes. What kind of dirt do you have on him? Video, pics, text messages? And of what - he cheated on his wife? He raped and killed a kid? He stole a pack of pencils from Walmart? You're asking for help here but not providing enough information to actually get any that's useful and actionable. You also have to keep in mind there's a good chance he really doesn't have it - most criminals are retarded and spend their money accordingly, so you have to think of what you'll do if he's a broke nigger again. You might need to take a partial payment, payment plan, or settle for him owing you "favors" instead of just getting cash out of him.
