It's been a long time since I've had to ask a question like this so please forgive my severe ignorance. I believe my computer might have something on it, maybe a virus or malware or spyware or just something malicious in general. I haven't had any scanning software on my computer for several years. There used to be a Reddit thread I would go to several years ago that had all this information but that one seems to be down or gone.

Can any of you please recommend any virus or malware or spyware or any of that, scanning and removal software that I can run on my computer and check it thoroughly? Preferably just one program to do it all, but if it has to be multiple programs I can understand. Also preferably something free that doesn't require a monthly or annual subscription or even a one-time buy fee. I just want to do a good long thorough scan on my computer and make sure there's nothing malicious on it.

Do you think running a MWB scan will suffice for finding anything malicious?

It's the best you're going to get and can do without formatting and re-installing windows.

If it tells you, you're clean I guess you can rest easy and try to be more careful. Personally if it came up with more than like five things or anything that looked serious, I'd absolutely format/re-install myself.

If you know you' just catch something again almost right after you format, I guess it would be a waste of time.

Some folks don't like to do that though.

Thanks for the advice

Any other suggestions, anyone?
