I am a 31 year old male whose only knowledge of anime comes from exposure via browsing imageboards for like 15 years What anime should I watch to get into it? The last one I watched was Pokemon or some shit like 20 years ago
What kind of films do you like?
>>1571281You are 31. They are children shows. You’re making me cry, OP. You gotta grow up.
I think there is like a common canon that many people who are into anime now all got into by watching the same stuff when it was airing on TV. Naruto and Bleach come to mind. Watch both in parallel, like one episode of Naruto, one episode of Bleach, and so on. >Also in the canon: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, Death Note
>>1571281Cowboy BebopDeath Note
>>1571284>They are children shows.Wrong, and irrelevant in any case.
>>1571285That's fine for impressionable teen boys but fighting boy shonen is really the lowest common denominator of the medium.Anime has some diversity, so unless you're really into fighting and power levels, there's no reason to watch Naruto.
You've missed the boat, OP. I got into anime non-conventionally and then kinda just stopped watching it and now haven't seen one in years. How I got into it:>saw someone playing doki doki literature club when i was a kid>found it interesting and looked into similar games>watched someone play steins gate>watched the anime>realized what i liked most of all was the cute girls>watched pure trash anime for my entire teenage years>binged incest anime because japan was the only one making media about the topic and i found the dynamic interesting>intersperse watching seasonal trash and old kino anime like evangelion, serial experiments lain, perfect blue>eventually run out of kino anime that peaks my interest>all the seasonal trash that used to at least pretend to have a unique premise becomes generic cookie cutter isekai slopi actually learned japanese, largely through osmosis and the bare minimum of studying grammar through this, i maintain that this is the easiest, most effective, and least difficult way to learn a language due to a combination of >VERY simple and repetitive vocabulary and grammar>salacious content keeps you engaged >very clear and well enunciated elocutionits actually gimped me a bit in learning other languages because no other language has any media like anime, where it's basically adult media in a childrens show formati can understand why there are so many south americans learning english through the simpsons nowas for getting in to it now, it really depends on if you want to watch pure brainrot slop or actual media with a story and a message, both are available and i can give recommendations for eachpersonally though if i wanted to get into japanese media now i'd look into arthouse films which i find more enjoyablei wouldn't enjoy the shit i watched as a teenager now because i'm not pumped full of sex hormones
>>1571284t. 19 year old who thinks you aren't allowed to have fun after you turn a certain age
>>1571289>saw someone playing doki doki literature club when i was a kid
>>1571312there's a world of difference between having fun and being a manchild>>1571283FPBP give us a taste of what you like OP how are we supposed to blindly recommend things? Cowboy bebop and EVA are the normalfag recommendations, they're both fine to start with I guess
>>1571281first watch every Studio Ghibli film (and I mean all of them)
anime phase was supposed to pass after you are not a kid anymore
