I need anime recommendations. I'm really stuck with the medium. I'm looking for OVAs or TV anime of 24 to ~50 episodes (if out of that range, it's okay) that will resonate with me. Preferably, in 4:3 format. I like anime series with distinctive art styles and esoteric motifs, an overarching sense of conspiracy and characters that have allegorical (or generally larger/symbolic) implications. My favorite series are RahXephon and Utena, and no other anime comes close to those two for me (yet). I'm open to all genres

>rahxephon - hemishphere, for me one of the grooviest op ever
>for me up there with kiznaiver op lay your hands on me

An obvious recommendation would be Monster (2004-2005), however never look it up but just start watching. One of those anime with the highest spoilers count ever.

For manga it would have been an easy rec: Akumetsu. Scifi, political, plots. The story is it never made into anime because being too critical about actual real life Japanese government.
Almost forgotten these days. Just start reading. Weebcentral has it.

I like this one and its kitschy juxtapositions

I have never heard of that manga, thank you! Looks interesting
