When I was a preteen/teen I'd play on my XBOX 360 via CRT TV and VCR, around 2013–19. Yes I was poor.One day, maybe around 2014–17, there was an EAS warning that permanently covered the screen of Channel 3 (which was used on ancient TVs to play gaming consoles before HDMIs) and Channel 5 I think as well because for some reason Channel 3 and 5 were both duplicate channels with one at a slight delay. Pic rel is close to how I remember it. It's hard to remember (I'd always switch it off immediately). It didn't omit any audio either, it was just eerie silence. I remember there being the text at the top but no actual warning in the middle. The "- 1 of 4 -" may or may not have been there. EAS warnings and static always creeped me the fuck out.In early 2020 I moved and the CRT TV was obviously very heavy and inconvenient to move around so we ditched it, and switched TV providers, so I don't know if that would have still been on the screen to this day or not. I don't think I ever unplugged the TV or whatever to try to fix it because I was retarded, I just accepted it as a fact of life.I don't know where to post this, I wanted more serious answers than /b/. I know some glitch happened, but does anyone have a guess as to what exactly? Why did it go possibly half a decade without being fixed? Maybe it was some issue within the TV/VCR itself but I don't know why it would have only affected only that channel. It also didn't do that after the first EAS warning it ever received, so I don't know why it would have decided to mess up that day in particular. We had a living room TV (not CRT, from 2009 and is analog) and I think it also showed the same thing on that screen (I still own that TV). That part could be wrong though I don't remember, but I'm 75% sure it was. If that was the case, my CRT TV or VCR was not the issue.
If I turned on the VCR before the XBOX 360 then the screen would cut to static, so I had to turn the XBOX 360 on first but I would still have to go to Channel 3 to play which also freaked me out. So it was quite the stressor when I just wanted to play some games. EAS and static are my kryptonite (static is so much worse). Otherwise I'm not easily freaked out.

I was young and technologically illiterate so I wasn't sure how but there had to have been some converter from analog to digital since I could watch TV. Analog ended in 2009 where I'm from so yeah it couldn't have possibly been that. If they didn't want to show anything then they could have just shut down the network. Why pay a TV provider to broadcast nothing? I don't believe this theory but this is very interesting, I never thought about it somehow being intentional. I don't think it was but still, interesting thought process. It was like this for 3–5 years at least, probably longer.
