Depends on what type of music you listen to. These days i usually listen to videogame osts and chiptune like the fag i am so i use SoundCloud. The personalized mixes it creates usually has stuff that fits my tastes. If you listen to more normal generes spotify also works pretty well.
I also remember using youtube mixes years ago but these days it never gives me any new songs for whatever reason. Youtube algorithm in general is pretty ass these days.

I'm not a people person however I often find new clues for new music in various craftsmen forums where they have an off-topic boards for other hobbies like music.

I am a metalhead. Despite of that I realized I really like medieval lute music like Dowland or Kapsberger thanks to a tip from an off-topic board at certain woodworking forum.

I guess what I want to say is that people evolve and so does their taste. It's often surprising.

When I was "new" and didn't have listening experience, I started out with "Top 100" lists in order to discover song names and artists to get ideas of songs I liked. This expanded my experience into other music genre.

Started with the Spotify algorithm years ago, then moved to bandcamp and soundcloud where the more niche artists live. I do not use Soundcloud's algorithms, but artists sometimes repost other people's music on there. On bandcamp there is the "fans also bought" section at the bottom of any album.
But the most common way for me is listening to compilations and checking out artists I like.

The above works for very well for electronic music and might work for other genres, but you probably need to be already familiar with the genre in order to really benefit.
For genres I'm unfamiliar with, I unironically chat with gemini to get initial suggestions, because it can adjust if I don't like them. You could also use RYM for bootstrapping if you hate clankers.

Bandcamp. Find a tag that looks interesting and listen to artists tagged with that music. Check to see who reviews artists that you like and follow them. Some of my favorite bands of all time were discovered on Bandcamp.

Some movie videos have unfamiliar but have a music choice I like. So I often click on the "more" in their description to see any mention of the music used in the background music. I remember doing that for the John Wick movie nightclub scene. That led me to find ARROW by Niki featuring Lily (vocals). Vocaloid type music in the Wick movie.. The lyrics are available if you click "more".
