I've seen how great of a job the Sonic movies did at mixing both cartoon and realism at the same time, can the same be applied to anime?

What the others said, and also:
- Appleseed film franchise
- Earwig and the Witch (3d Ghibli film)
- Gantz: O (pic rel)
- the newer Ghost in the Shell series
- the Resident Evil 3d cgi movies are basically anime

I think there's more out there too.
- people on this site also loved the James Cameron adaption of Gunnm
(Battle Angel Alita), though the movie is mostly live action.
