A long time ago, one of my loved ones committed suicide.
I am not suicidal, and I will never be suicidal. I've healed much from my loss, but I am strongly emotionally moved by stories about suicide.
I'd love some films, shows, manga or anime, books, or any other artworks where suicide is important to the work; whether it's because suicide is a throughline present in the entire work, or because suicide is integral to the ending of it, or anything else.

Since I'm asking for stories where suicide might happen at the end and those suicide-focused endings might be surprises or twists I guess don't read this thread if you care about spoilers.

The film Seven Pounds fucks me up a lot.

Does someone choosing a path of life that guarantees 100% chance of death count as suicide in your view?

An example of what I'm talking about is the movie "Falling down" with Michael Douglas where the main character doesn't emit a "suicidal" aura, what he acts and does in the movie and the type of person he is means there is pretty much absolutely no way he will not end up dying when the results of his actions catch up with him.

Songs, you may be interested in "Adam's Song" by Blink-182 and "Hey man nice shot" by Filter which I think was written about that congressman or politician that killed himself.

It's from 1999 and therefore slightly outdated, but pic related is very good. It's more informational than anything, though, but discusses the history of suicide, stories of suicide victims, different methods, basically anything you can think of.
It's the perfect book about suicidology if that's what you're into.
Also, for a "biography" of a suicided man there's "Leaving The Hall Light On" - it's by his mother. It was sad too, but I doubt you can get it physically these days and you might not even be able to pirate it because it's pretty niche. I think it's on Kindle, though.

And anything else by that author, really

I highly recommend a recent film, A Man Called Otto.

>Falling Down
I've seen this one a long time ago, but I appreciate this recommendation still. I don't know how much I'd count it personally, Bill reads to me like a character that's just so psychologically fucked up that he might not even know what he's doing.
To get a little pretentious, all life paths guarantee death, don't they?
Also, I assume you're talking about Budd Dwyer? I wish people talked more about his story. People don't talk enough about his allegations or the consideration he put into his suicide. He wanted the cameras to cut sooner so his death wouldn't be televised, but he planned his death to fall on a school day so fewer children would be present to accidentally witness a death and become traumatized.
Nowadays if a politician gets convicted of crimes relating to corruption they just laugh about it and keep on trucking.

Interesting point and I was actually in that post going to address that before you pointed that fact out.

But, I meant his actions and what he does mean death is "imminent'. He was not going to jail. It is only a matter of minutes/hours before the law catches up with you because, you can't go around doing the things he did and live weeks or months or years longer, unless you leave some space for a possible but not plausible plan where he manages to evade everyone after that and the movie doesn't end with him dying.

If it's as simple as "everything leads to death" then you take the timing factor out of it you may as well look at suicide as simply a form of death and that's it since death will come anyways.

Yeah, that is the guy I'm talking about.

I was in the military around 2005 and one of the soldiers hung himself in the barracks just before we deployed. I had a friend in high school that shot himself in the head and I went to his funeral.

For just an ending Romeo and Juliet might be an obvious one.
No Longer Human is pretty good for one for appearing across the work and by an author that killed himself.
Never finished the anime but the manga for Harmony is good.

Groundhog Day has a pretty famous suicide montage.

I'm sorry, anon.

I'm aware of this, thank you for the recommendations but this one in particular I probably could not stomach. Everything I've seen of it is just too painfully sad. I don't know anything about the author, Osamu Dazai, but I hope that he rests in eternal peace.
