The main character finds a palce where the veil is thinner and projects their consciousness into a robot body in the outside world. They see their world from the outside. Go to find and free their real body. Rip open the cocoon, pod is empty. Their real body died due to an autoimmune rejection syndrom ~10% of people develop. Their mind is being simulated based on logged activity patterns for the purpose of continuity. They can free the others but in destroying the universe they would also potentially end their own mind, "soul" even.
