My Chinese friend told me that in their beliefs they believe that we, humans, reside in a lower realm, and the gods reside in a higher realm. They also believe that our realm is "insulated" from theirs, so they basically can't interact with our realm, or come down to our realm, and if a god wants to come down to our realm, they would have to send down an "avatar". She also told me that they believe that humans can ascend to the higher realms, and that some of their ancestors have done that and fight the other gods to protect their human families on earth, or something like that. She also told me that when you ascend to the higher realms, it's a one-way ticket. You can't go back down.
