I would avoid fixation of higher aspects like it having to be a squid or spider or snake. eg if your real body was immobilized in something that could be moved around and you felt tubes all over you, those could become reeds or snakes. If you had something on your head draped over, that could come through as a spider. So you have to have some uncertainty when it comes to symbol substitution and transformation. eg a giant spider could be a derivative of something that brain in its current state cannot understand or represent within the dream world.
