It could be a psychological issue, but I remember some point in my early teens just feeling completely detached to larger society and its customs and culture. Even if I watch something today I know that I like, or read a book I enjoy the most you will get out of me was “that was okay”. Something just sort of happened that made almost everything appear as a different shade of grey. By removing aesthetic appeal and creating utilitarian structures, you can slowly erode a person's psyche without them even realizing it. Art is frequently weaponized because it affects people on an emotional, psychological and spiritual level.
