When it happens they're basically reliving childhood trauma, and they'll go mad with anger and lash out to try to suppress the horror of what they felt - realizing your parents don't love you or want to hurt you when you're completely defenseless and rely on them for survival.Turns out BPD has pretty good outcomes with treatments that are based on learning mindfulness etc., drugs do very little.

my BPD ex grew up with an alcoholic father. She had to walk him home from the lake at like 7 or 8 for years because her father was too drunk to make it home on his own.
Her mom divorced. Then she was a single kid to a single mom.

Whatever happened to her, it fucked her up.
NOTHING can be her fault EVER. She unplugs all the surge protectors in the house when she leaves to make sure she has 0 culpability if the apartment complex burns down.
It was a studio apartment so it was like two plugs, but it was every time, and she told me this is why she unplugs them from the wall.
Of course nothing ever being her fault is for EVERYTHING in her life - she manipulates and gaslights and is extremely strategic to make sure even when something IS her fault, she has alibis to people who don't look too close.
She even called my friends behind me back and would tell them I yelled at her (I only yelled at her when she defended animal abuse. Yes that upset me.) she kept telling people I was yelling at her, and "all the time."
My friends told me about it, friends who didn't have a hirse in the race - they were my friends not hers.
She also would get mad if you "couldn't make a decision"
of course that definition was entirely up to her - silence is a valid answer, deciding to do multiple things, etc. are decisions. Very different than being "undecided".
This stems back to her father being unable to make decisions for himself, which she disrespects. She HATES her dad.
And then I don't know what issues she had with her mom.
I don't think she ever did chores because she didn't know how to use a dishwasher properly, despite her parents still in the house she grew up in, having a dishwasher.
I think her mom was both absentee, but also a tiger mom, and my BPDex was an internet freak

Think about that kind of life. Can't be really happy about anything and also not allowed to be too sad about it at the same time.

It's not a fun mental illness to have and it doesnt make you fucking cool - it makes you withdrawn, from everything, just in case it sets you off and you accidentally ruin your life and the lives of everyone who love you - and even they have to pull away, just in case.

It's because their true face (their soul) has been blurred, fogged, and buried under shards of broken innocence. Once this is rejoined the BPD individual is resurrected, psychologically and spiritually and can live out a good life.
