Waking up from REM sleep or taking benadryl fucks with your brain processing what you are seeing. You turn the light on and its gone. People on benadryl report seeing spiders aswell but its always just a black spot in the dark from just about anything. Horror movies show this all the time. The cliché when the person is startled by something in the dark they can't quite tell what it is and then after they turn the light it disappears and it's just a coat or anything like that.This is what causes that intense feeling of evil and terror because you don't know what you're seeing and your mind goes into that fight or flight mode. The Hatman is never seen in daylight. It's just pareidolia in the dark
