In Nevada, Interstate 80 runs through stretches of desert. The desert can be a very unforgiving place with temperature swings and dangers that await those who venture through it. There have been a large number of unexplained disappearances and deaths along a certain stretch of I-80. Pumpernickel Valley's Exit 205 is extremely interesting because it leads to nowhere. But, there have been some very mysterious disappearances that appear to have occurred at this exit.
On Valentine's Day 2006, Judith Casida, a 62 year old woman and Reno resident, wrote a note to her husband, telling him she was unhappy with their marriage and their life in general and that she was leaving. She left in her 1991 white Mazda pickup truck. In March 2006, her car was found off of Exit 205 on I-80. The car had a full tank of gas and there wasn't anything wrong with it mechanically. A set of footprints from the truck led towards I-80, and then vanished. Her bank accounts showed no activity after her disappearance.
On April 13, 2011, 86 year old Patrick Carnes was driving down I-80 back to Reno after visiting family in Ohio. He was a World War Two vet, a former truck driver and was traveling with his akita mix, "Lucky." After being stopped for a traffic violation at 9 PM, Carnes indicated he was following the truck in front of him who Carnes claimed was headed for Elko. Carnes told the patrolman, somewhat cryptically, "I’ll never drive at night again. I’m only following him because he’s going to Elko." On the morning of April 14, 2011, Carnes' truck was also found off of exit 205, with only a single set of footprints leading away from the car. The car was found in sagebrush and was high-centered, but, like Judith's car, otherwise seemed in good working condition. Carnes' belongings remained in the car, including his checkbook. Neither Carnes nor Lucky were ever found. Carnes' family claimed he was a happy man with a fulfilling relationship with family.
Given that two elderly people disappeared within five years of each other off of the same exit, is there a chance their disappearances might have been linked? Is it possible both just got disoriented and lost, or that they committed suicide?

3 year old Pearl Turner went missing from Tate, Arkansas on October 19, 1923. She was last seen by her sister that morning eating berries in the front yard of their family cabin. Her mother rang the dinner bell for lunch around noon but Pearl failed to arrive.An immediate search was conducted and small footprints were located on the dirt road leading towards White Oak Mountain. The tracks stopped abruptly near the woods at the base of the mountain where Pearl's handkerchief was discovered, but she was nowhere to be found.There were allegedly multiple sightings of Pearl reported after her disappearance, but none were confirmed. The local sheriff's offices carried out door-to-door searches within the community. Search parties consisting of hundreds of people scoured the mountains and woods with the aid of dogs for several weeks. Despite the extensive searches conducted, Pearl was never located and her whereabouts remain unknown.
Actress Tammy Lynn Leppert disappeared after being dropped off at a parking lot by a friend. She had been paranoid after attending a party on a yacht.

I’m startled at first like, WTF!? but I look around and don’t notice anything. No additional sounds, no movement in the dark whatsoever, keep in mind it’s light pin drop silent out there….

And I don’t just mean happens again, a sound, a scurrying creature, something a bird would do, but a peddle maybe the size of a corn kernel passes right in front of me… TINK… the sound it makes as ,once again, it travels directly to the hood of the truck once more. Being high and paranoid is one thing, stuff going “knock in the night” in the wilderness is one thing you know if you go camping or whatever critters will be around. I’m not freaking out yet but I’m uncomfortable.I continue to star gaze. But while doing so my logic brain begins looking for a solution. What lizard or desert creature of any kind that’d be startled by the presence of a human would just stick around? Even if there are desert creatures around… how would one be both large enough to kick up such stone and make no additional noise…? Keep in mind these two incidents took place in an environment I would call pin drop quiet. No additional noise, no blur shadow or flash of creature scurrying away, or even just upset there’s a potential predator in their environment, near to their den whatever maybe could cause creatures to be any type of way. My logic brain keeps trying to make sense of it and fails. I grow more uncomfortable.

After a short stupid curious look around from the perceived safety of the truck cab I pull off. I am keeping my eyes pealed. I’m several hours drive away from the nearest human being. I keep toying for explanation, and can’t find any, decide to drive a bit more quickly than maybe you should. I had a great grandpa who went missing like seventy or eighty years ago. He just left one day and was never seen again.
