By occult resources I mean anything that you can use to learn about esoterism, Magick and the occult. It can be books, podcasts, documentaries or even infographics. I am interested in hearing what people are into.
To start off, what are your opinions on pic related? I have heard mixed opinions, with some saying it's legit and some saying it's not that great.
>>
I've been reading through the Spirits Book its been really insightful on spiritualism I would strongly recommend it personally.

Most people I know hate on Evola because he's "fascist" or whatever they think he was. I simply dislike Gruppo di Ur because they messed about with "tantric" bullshit and mixed it up with "hermeticism" or whatever other western stuff. It's the same thing I dislike about Crowley. Pick a lane. Drive on it until you actually get somewhere instead of making a bunch of side quest pit stops.

I have the Llewellyn one that is annotated by Donald Tyson. How does it compare with the Inner Traditions one with the new translation and corrections by Eric Purdue? Which one do you guys prefer?
>>
>>42485088
Reuchlin was a big influence on Agrippa and Dee.
>>
For beginner seekers I recommend to skim through occult mysteries org. Later when you get schizo or just psychosis and hopefully survive (not commit sudoku) you won’t need any occult shit. Your mind will be enough, will provide visions shapes forms entities and such
>>
>>42485551
Genuine beginners who have no understanding of religion shouldn't even begin to start looking into occultism. They should start by reading the mainstream exoteric religions of their society, and then moving into philosophy, and finally, into esotericism.
>>
>>42485578
right. so they know what "correct" thoughts to think.
>>
>>42485578
Yes but it’s for genuine. Look what drugs did to people. They are taking shortcuts. DONT they know they pay with their time? You do middle path? For rhp they say the middle doesn’t exist.
>>
>>42485653
No, so they understand the background and wellspring of their esoteric endeavour. Esotericism doesn't exist within a vacuum, it is intricately woven together with religion.

>Purdue bypassed the flawed 1651 English text completely and spent over a decade translating directly from the definitive Latin text. He fixed hundreds of errors, restored proper botanical names, corrected mistranslated astrological terms, and flipped right-side-up the magical sigils that had been broken for 350 years. Easy-to-read, clean, and highly precise modern English.

This is a massive torrent of books from the old Occult and Magic general. Dunno if it still works.
>>
Read Dogma and Ritual of High Magic by Eliphas Levi. It's the source for this infamous picture of Baphomet.

nonsense babble of a frigid pseud. you can comfortably dive into a grimoire like liber iuratus without having to be a catholic, or ever having read anything from iamblichus or the sefer ha-razim that partly inspired it.
>>
>>42486837
Don't you think you should read Iamblichus, so you understand the rationale behind theurgy? And you don't have to be Catholic you dolt.
>>
>>42486900
>Don't you think you should read Iamblichus, so you understand the rationale behind theurgy?
right. because there's only **one** thinking on theurgy. never mind that there was an important disagreement between iamblichus and his teacher porphyry on the nature of man and how he should do theurgy.

>And you don't have to be Catholic you dolt.
right. because strictly speaking a catholic shouldn't even attempt anything that smacks of magic. do you see now my problem with your rationale that occult studies should take the linear progression of exoteric religion, then philosophy, and only then esotericism? there are many things within occultism that don't always concur with each other that sometimes it's just less confusing to compartmentalize one thing within itself without first having to visit all its ideological parents
>>
>>42486939
A bit further up that stream would be a discussion of Iamblichus' view of goeteia vs theourgia. I swear, it's like philosophers, theologians and occultists all take bits and bobs from here and there that they like and smash em together into a forced harmonization. Renaissance Hermeticism and late antique Corpus Hermeticum for example have some wide divergences.

This book is one of the greatest source of knowledge when it comes to hermeticism that exists out there. Cool to read too

>>42485337
Always love seeing some AOS, must read occultist for all
>>
>>42485088
This one is a initiatory book thats a great starting point into deeper activities, at least if you are into chaos magick. It certainly helped me in my journey
>>

Your picrel reminds me of a story I heard that went something like
>a man jokingly asks his daughter to write a book for a competition
>the daughter writes about Alchemical esoterism
>the dad is shocked and tries to get the book out of circulation but some copies remain
>>
>>42487991
That story is indeed about Mary Anne Atwood! Her father was a renowned hermeticist and tried to burn all copies of this book (going to great lengths to buy sold copies) but did not succeed. He thought that the book revealed way too much secrets to those with eyes to see.

However although he destroyed most he could not destroy all, and the book we have now is one of those few surviving pieces. She also has a lot of letters but those are unfortunately not online.

And this might not be totally accurate information, but I had heard that there are actually two separate versions of the book. One being the surviving original copy of the book and another that was revised by Mary Anne Atwood herself later in life.

Ah, the classics. I do like Peter J. Caroll. His Liber Kaos is a foundational piece for me.

One of the best parts about Liber Null and Psychonaut is at the end of the book you have an entire section of other occult works that is filled with a lot of great books.

Going from the theme of Chaos Magick. Also recommend this one. Also great for one to understand how magick can function
>>
I love how you faggot posers just post high level books as if you were at a level where you could even understand them all the while being useless mundanes.
>>42487833
Good book.
>>
>>42488173
much projection
>>
>>42488173
Hey, everyone on this path was mundane once. There isn't any shame in that. I am still a beginner myself, and 3 or 4 years back when I read Liber Kaos for the first time many things flew over my head which I understood fully only when I reread the book (and some others, notably Phil Hine's Condensed Chaos and the book of Eris) later on. Still, even with that half knowledge I initially gained, it was leagues beyond what I knew prior and helped me greatly.
>>
Adding to the numerous chaos magick books in the thread, Alan Chapman's "Advanced Magick for Beginners" book is a step by step guide to increasingly advanced rituals and techniques.
>>
A solid book on the Tarot for those interested.

Even if you are not interested in the Tarot, keep in mind that knowing any divinatory technique is great when it comes to your own practice, and connect you deeper to your own magick/energy or whatever. So Tarot, scrying, "automatic drawing" as Jan Fries puts it, among many others, I'd highly advice the practicioner to learn at least one form of divination

I mean, occultism has always been influenced by women
>Helena Blavatsky
>Dion Fortune
>Cleopatra the Alchemist
>Mary the Jewess
>Annie Besant
>Alice Bailey
>Ancient Greek Oracles, a lot of them were women
>Ancient Egyptian Mysteries had priestesses
>Eleusinian Mysteries had female initiates
Some of these have a mixed reputation, but so do most male occultists as well.
I think most of the criticism that you can apply to normalfoids doesn't really apply to initiate females.

I guess the esoteric Hitlerists were right all along. I wonder if there is anything written about the Ahnenerbe that relates to Magick.
>>

To add to that, Mary Anne Atwood and Pamela Colman Smith (the person that designed the rider-waite deck) are also occultists of great renown.

A closed mind is a closed eye, any occultist worth their salt has to be in tune with both their masculine and feminine side. Modernist misogyny only clouds the path (as does any other ideologies of the un-initiated)
