I think I used to be a main character. Now I am an NPC and am happy about being ignored by gangstalkers.

Yeah I'm definitely a background character. At best I'm just the guy driving by on the highway a couple miles away in the background while something interesting happens to all the protagonist. But I do my job well and that's all anyone can do in this world.
