Throw aside the superhero angle and it is fundamentally a show about Earth resisting an alien invasion from a race (in the show they call them Viltramites) that wants to improve Earth in every conceivable way. They try and paint them as villains with over the top violence, a supremacist attitude, and alternate reality scenes where we see what happens if Earth "loses" but if you look closely you can tell that the show is simply trying to say that Earth should remain independently governed even if an externally imposed government would be better in every quantitative way. They even explicitly show the aliens wanting to give humans access to superior healthcare and energy specifically. interestingly enough they don't seem to paint the aliens as the invading force, the glownigger with the powers of consciousness projection is clearly the bad guy and he wants to prevent humanity from finding out the truth. the aliens themselves seem almost pleasant from what little we had seen (or at least they are in the forest animal form), my current view about this film is that the message it brings is only meant for those with the eyes to see, whether hollywood did this out of genuine desire to reveal the truth or because they have no other option i think this movie will be it.
