He didn't 'just uncover' anything... those of us who were in the program have been talking about it for years. I was given an IQ test in kindergarten (and thought this was standard until I was in my 20's and found out no one else knew their IQ at that age), and then placed into a program that took me and one other kid out of class 2-3 times a week.We did lots of puzzles, hearing tests, and had to plan future civilizations and solve hypothetical problems that might come up one day. Once a month or so, we went on a field trip and met with kids from other schools, I don't remember much of this beyond an inflatable planetarium type thing that everyone felt dizzy in. We weren't allowed to talk about these trips with the non gifted kids, and my parents had no idea about the field trips until I mentioned them years later, so I don't think they went through the proper permission slip processes or anything. The people who pulled us out of class were always dressed fancy and didn't work at the school as far as I knew.I was in it in the early 2000s when the program was ending, the kids who were in it in the 80's have some real crazy stories.Around 10 years ago I found a document on the CIA website from the 70s or 80s, written to the department of education, advocating for the program, saying something about 'identifying children who will be essential to America's future'. It mentioned a 'part 2' that was for select individuals only, I was never able to find the second part and I think the original document has since been removed? I haven't been able to find it since, but I also didn't think they removed things from the CIA Reading Room, so wtf do I know.
