Howdy! Out of curiosity, has anyone here attained any powers from the use of mantras? There's a book on invoking Guru Rinpoche that suggests chanting his mantra 1,000,000 times will bestow some powers. I'm about 5,000 repetitions into this, so we'll see how it goes. Outside of the mantras, I meditate and am also a magickian.
noanyone who says they have is lying to you
>>42573158You won't acquire such from just uttering mantras. Like with all ritualistic things, you have to understand and have mindfulness of the meaning of a mantra for it to have any effect. Number of repetitions is merely a measuring stick for the period of time you are expected to embrace and internalize the concept of the mantra for if it's meant to have any effect. At this point it's just a type of meditation and it's that that may give you any spiritual result - and even then it's highly unlikely the result will be an actual siddhi. In general, spiritual pursuits for the sake of siddhi are self-sabotaging, because siddhi are powers on the physical plane of existence and for there to be spiritual effects you have to seek the divine and leave the physical aside for a bit. And you cannot reach the divine if your intents and drives are firmly rooted in physical. That's one of several major reasons why many, most even practitioners never acquire any sort of spiritual experience despite reading hundreds of books and practicing rituals and whatnot for years - your motivation, goals, character and approach matters.. About the only way to really develop siddhi is either with a help of someone who's already developed enough that they can make a change in you (initiation) or as a side-effect rather than a goal of spiritual development appearing naturally. There is an exception with certain practices that are ways of "spiritual development" but very strictly structured (sets of particular exercises etc) to push various practitioners in roughly similar direction - but even they require proper approach/attitude and either need or highly benefit from highly developed practitioner who can initiate you.>inb4 what's your siddhiAbsolutely none. But I did experience some supernatural shit to suggest I am making some progress and it's possible, though not overtly important that if I'll get (much) further, there'll be siddhi along the way.
>>42573158>also a magickianYou're LARPer or call yourself already what you want to be. In the past, magicians tended to be the people doing party tricks, it's mostly young adult fantasy novels authors who mixed that term with that of practicing occultist or "mages" (another term that's mostly taken over by fantasy genre). If you'd be a proficient adept of sorts, not merely dabbler going through rituals etc, you wouldn't be asking about siddhi from mantras. And just following/repeating some rituals without much of an understanding what makes them work doesn't make you anything but someone playing around.I guess I just hit the lecturing tone because asking basic questions while pretentiously putting on airs and calling yourself things is annoying me. That's on me.

>>42573253Yeah, that certainly is on you.
>>42573230Well, I appreciate the honesty of admitting not having attained any Siddhis yourself. Definitely a well grounded response.
>>42573158>1,000,000 times>5,000 repetitions into thisWhat's your daily? A 108 mala will require 9,213 more rounds. If you're fast you can probably get 50-70 rounds a day, if you don't do anything else. That should only take a year.
>>42573401Well in Catholicism they call them charisms (like anointing), and what I always thought was you only get them when they would benefit others, and they all sort of work together, as a community in the Kingdom of God. For example if a lay person gets tongues another will get interpretation, because that's how the Spirit works thru the Kingdom of God. P.S. please don't say I'm preaching Christianity I'm Buddhist I just don't know much about siddhisI have mind reading stuff, knowing what to say, etc. but it comes from upaya
>>42573422My daily as of now has been ~2,000. Yeah, lol, I realized that some people probably make the mantra their main practice for a while. Not something I'm willing to do currently so I'm fine with it being slower.
>>42573430Nah, preach whatever you wish. i didn't interpret that as pontificating though. Yes, intuition is possible to be developed. My intuition is saying it's possible to develop these powers, so i'll continue the chanting. I was just curious what /x/philes would say.
>>42573455My method, I don't seek siddhis, but if you want to show others the facts and you learn to develop upaya (skillful means, as in Lotus Sutra), you get abilities, you call it intuition, which help spread Dharma. The Lotus Sutra teaches the rain of the Single Taste, there's one truth but it affects all the sentient beings according to their capacities. Lotus Sutra essentially promises, same as your mantra, to make people into Forward Teachers with upaya just for listening to it and preserving it
>>42573401Thank you. I try to not put on airs when sharing information. I know some stuff, but it doesn't mean I am some great authority, just a man with a few tricks and a few experiences.
>>42573430You probably should tell >>42573401 that you're not the anon they directly address, to avoid confusion.
>>42573393Aye, though I still posted that because declaring oneself an adept (even if using more pop-culture, fantasy movie term for it) looks iffy, so I hope to push that point across.
