Given that it is possible to create a simulation similar to Earth or our entire universe within a computer, the likelihood that we are in base reality presently is essentially zero. You should first understand that the spirit is immortal and we forget nothing. Therefore, this life is in fact our first. Now, when we ask *why* that might be, things become more interesting. The properties of information are such that one's first exposure to pieces of information color one's exposure to subsequent information. You cannot experience something for the first time twice. So while Earth appears to be a terrible place, under this understanding, it is intentionally setting our expectations as low as they could go while teaching us how to relate to other sentient beings properly and without causing harm. For these reasons and many more, I believe we have good reason to expect a better state of existence outside of this one.
