I think the idea is that you're given choice points while under the veil of ignorance and you choose what to feed.It's probably more nuanced for us niggas on /x/, but you're generally born and forget whats up and have a series of serious choice points in your life.
Polarity implies they are not mutually exclusive. By serving others you serve yourself since All is one and one is All. By serving yourself you are serving others by being a catalyst which fosters growth. We do both no matter what side of the spectrum we are on. The degree to which we are influenced is what really matters.
