despite the negative reviews, I gave “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” a shot because I was told it had good gore :)In that respect, I wasn’t disappointed. Genuinely some disgusting visuals that left me in shock, I would not recommend eating while watching this lol. super gross, so it delivered in that respect, and I suppose that’s what I wanted out of it so it was worth my time :3 the main “villain,” the possessed mummy girl, was super creepy. the makeup department really did a great job with her, every scene she’s in is genuinely disturbing and unsettling, and her unnatural movements really add to the experience. It was very reminiscent of the exorcist in that regard, and all together a very similar movie. I read comparisons to evil dead as well, and it’s definitely very similar, especially with the dark humor. I have to admit I cackled like a witch during some of the scenes, it just become very absurd at times.For a horror movie, it was surprisingly light on actual scares, it doesn’t have any jumpscares that really startle you, it relies on its oppressive atmosphere and repulsive visuals to unsettle you. The ending was over the top and a bit silly, the strongest part of the movie is the middle.It’s a long watch, but it kept me entertained. It’s a slow build up from the beginning, the first 45ish minutes just sets the stage.
