Have a good health and diet, Its not that hard.
Exercise is good too, meditation even before it also helps.
To have a good spirit you need a good body and mind, atleast until a certain limit.

Also, i find hermeticism one of the better ways to study the soul and the cosmos. Alchemy is nice too.
But i would say for you to re -search your ancestrals, see what they did and base around that.
