How does one start out with rune magic? What would be the process for a beginner? I heard it's generally really safe
>carve runes on wood tiles (treat with burned sage/incense)>get opaque bag, preferably leather or canvas>shakashaka.gif>ask your question and toss on a clean white linen or any cloth that isn't shaggyFrom there, study their positions and associations to one another. You should get to learn each rune's individual meaning so you study the significance of each one's landing position
>>42688229Yea technically "Study their meaning" comes first and there's also more than one set between Nordic/Germanic and Tengri.Since while crafting Rune chips or stones should be done after or while learning their deeper meanings.>>42686802Rune Magic isn't just making the Divining method as described. If you learn their meanings fully and properly you can carve them into all sorts of things, learn to combine them into Rune-Staves and make your name in them. Amber is easy to carve into, I have a necklace with a rune on it in metal, acid-etching into swords, carving into wands or staves, or as per mythology rings are all viable options. Works best if it's also of your Blood, Ogham is similar for Celtic. Slavic Cyrillic has an element of this too, as it is hard for a foreigner to decipher. You also need to know Runic to vocal meanings for Seidr / Galdr practices, you could also try making Tarot-style cards if wood carving is a bit beyond you.Another magical or mystical aspect is to contemplate upon their meanings. Skaldic Poetry is also related to build up to.
Letters dont have magic, Idiot. Read the poetic edda in your preferred language, the English is fine if you cannot germanic languages.
As this anon said already >>42691225Adding to this, I always find this funny because the "names" of the runes are not magical, they were invented by skaldic poets to make it easier to remember them the same way they used kennings to make it easier to remember things. They are like the "names" we give to letters in the NATO shorthand like alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, eagle, foxtrot, hotel, etc...lollmao evenAnd if anyone reading this thinks that anon I mentioned or I'm wrong, check out Dr. Jackson Crawford's youtube channel he is the world's foremost expert on germanic cultural studies and runeology, here: https://www.youtube.com/@JacksonCrawfordHe has a free course on the runes which is like, academic quality. But I doubt any zoomer has the attention span to actually watch anything longer than a tiktok video, let alone actually read anything as high concept as the Poetic Eddas, so, I guess in practice, ya'll are fucked.
