just watched hellraiser. I’ve been told it’s a horror movie classic so I figured I finally had to watch it and see what all the talk was about. It was incredibly funny. I was dying laughing every scene with that weird monster with the face on its ass. The whole climax I was cracking up. And then at the end when the bum guy turns into this skeletal demon monster thing, it looked so goofy that it literally broke me and I couldn’t stop cackling. It was a really slow movie up to that point. I had heard so much about it being all about torture and masochism and all that, but there was barely any torture in it, just the one scene at the end with the hooks, and like a few flashes of the guy being suspended and cuts to that weird little spinning flesh rack thing. I was honestly pretty disappointed in that, was expecting a sort of hostel-esque experience with a lot of gore and torture but most of the movie is just the older lady killing people to get Frank’s skin back. I mean, I guess the gore was fine, there was a few gross-out moments, but by far the grossest part of the movie is the very beginning with Frank’s ludicrously dirty-ass finger nails. I was like “damn, those dirty fingernails are the true horror of this movie” and nothing quite matched the grotesque revulsion I experienced from seeing them. The husband was the most oblivious dude I’ve ever seen, surprised he survived so long. Overall I was pretty disappointed, did not age well, but that one monster was so fucking funny that it redeemed the movie for me.
