Hello /x/, what is your personal favorite old school (I.E. Pre -2016) ARG? I've fell down a rabbit hole of old ARGs and wanted to know if you guys would like to discuss some of them.Examples:https://www.youtube.com/@abstractions4123https://www.youtube.com/@AspicioOmniamhttps://www.youtube.com/@finderictaylorhttps://www.youtube.com/@butterbiscuits4363https://www.youtube.com/@dogwood531https://www.youtube.com/@LouisePaxtonhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU8hMPcqMQAKF3gMNmvjxYQ
>>42699804I wanna say TribeTwelve but the guy who made it is a pedophile so sadly that's off the table. I wanna say FoundontheTape too, but that never even finished.
>>42699916I actually found a bunch that seemed to be unfinished (or at least, had videos deleted).https://www.youtube.com/@s0cksifyhttps://www.youtube.com/@cdc-em3pkhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLJaNgAn6HMqLEOt0Dubt_A
>>42699916>the guy who made it is a pedophileHe's a jew. Of course he likes kids.
>>42699804Can't say I ever got into one, but I remember actually hearing about Marble Hornets back in the day, and I had fun learning about its whole run from YouTube videos. I think the era of ARGs like that are probably mostly lost now, there were a lot of lightning in a bottle elements that made them doable back then, and unfortunately you're just not going get people hooked by thinking they found a creepy video on the internet (anything that might be actually creepy gets flagged way too easily now, and you have to know what you're doing to find what slips through the cracks), and even if you're a decent story teller it's doubtful people will care enough to stick around since there's only so many ways you can go after your initial YouTube setup. And making it clear from the beginning that you're entirely fake just isn't the same.
>>42700066I feel like series got less "I'm making this for fun" and more "I am making this for fame" with the rise of Wendigoon and Nightmind. Given that corporate scouts are now looking for new properties to gain the rights to in the wake of the backrooms movie, it's only gonna get worse.
>>42699916>FoundontheTapeI like the concept of using HL maps.
bump
>>42700113I feel like that's just gonna be a fad that lasts maybe a few years. Remember all the creepypasta movies (Ted, Slenderman, etc) that sucked ass and killed everything off? That's how this trend is going to end. Backrooms was lightning in a bottle, I doubt Mandela Catalogue or the two Trever Henderson movies are going to be good.
>>42699804I wonder if they are doing good out there
>>42701995They probably don't even know they have a following
https://www.youtube.com/@themalkavianbible
It's ashame most of these series never had proper endings.
>>42704039Interesting >>42705191Yep, I wish most did more
>>42699804the worst ARG of all time is marrying a woman
>>42700341Yeah, that was awesome. I remember hearing people thought it was an ARG for announcing Half Life 3. Hey, maybe that was true, and why it was abandoned.
>>42705191>>42706796And the endings they do have are usually dogshit.
now I remember about Alan Tutorial
>>42704039finally someone saved it. it's a very good matrix-tier story. I wonder if I should spoil it, or just let the others figure it out on their own
bumping, because fuck modern /x/, fuck generals, and fuck anons
jesus christ, it's like modern /x/ is interested in only talking about god, satan, and other piss shit religions
>nu /x/ doesnt care about creepypastas
there was this very early channel, like from 2006, who had some really really really creepy vids and got forgotten, but the vids became source for some shitty creepypastas
>>42715530I think you're going to have to be a little more specific.
>>42716417in a way, it was the mother of many creepypastas>shot in darkness>disturbing images>guys in female masks looking at the camera>implications of some murderand so on.They had like 6 or 7 videos with the last one being in 2007 and nothing since
https://www.youtube.com/@roberthelpmann9855this guy for a while was controversial, as it looked like murdered body in a bag. not sure if it was ever solved
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEIqCg_MOTA&list=PLxidcK1q6hvA3SOQNDmZvetnnctpgg1Ms&index=19this video was obviously fake, but the creators had a lot of problem with the police, as well as some woman sued them, as the girl in the vid looked similar to her missing daughter, which was later found murdered
another example of dropped ARG would be Dad Tapeshttps://www.youtube.com/@DadsTapes
This is a modern japanese ARGwarning, very scaryhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnjharIzqbhC6smXfbydrt8ha3z-XVod7
>>42716507I remember some analysis youtuber came to the conclusion that this was metaphor for the spirit of Christmas being dead... somehow.
