They follow a similar path we do immediately after death
Does it mean we go to the same place? Unsure.
But based on dead people, and pets, visiting me in dreams after they die, there is a similar astral they use, and for similar purposes - to communicate with the living a final time, they may get to watch us ti know it's going to be OK befire moving on this is speculation though.
I know one of my pets stayed around, his shadow would walk up and down the steps in full light. Sure, you can say it was habit, but
my neighbor who shares a wall,, condo,, put his dog down.
For a few days after he put his dog down, it's shadow was running up an down/around my steps, seemed to be exploring now that walls weren't a limitation. It was a friendly dog, really liked people, only knew it for a few months. But here was it's shadow, in my new house, and only for a few days too.
My pet shadow from 15 years ago stayed for almost a year.
A separate pet - his brother, I had the most vivid dream of my life. He was sitting where my mom ways and still does put her purse. He was always ridiculously smart. He taught ME about people. He was sitting where she puts her purse, in order to be noticed - to be sure there is 0 chance my mom would not notice him.
I only had that dream once.
It was over a year after he was put down, too, which is also not the norm. God. That would be over 20 years ago now... I wouldn't blame him if he wasn't there anymore. I don't know if he would be... which makes me feel bad not knowing... I guess I'm not sure I would have waited 20 years going on a other 20........ I would check the spot in the afterworld, but I'm can't say for certain I would wait.
I would certainly like to see him again.
And maybe that's love, waiting so they see you again, not because you want to see them... look at him still teaching me.
I'm sad now, OP.
We share a similar afterlife for some portion. I'm certain of it.

I love how the assumption of everyone in this thread is that cats are their own unique souls apart from human souls, because that's exactly how I feel too. I think cat souls have slightly difference lessons to learn here, so I imagine their afterlife reflects that. My guess also is that it's much easier for cats to escape this place than humans.

Cats go straight back to source, or Lyra. Not sure. It depends. All animals return to source and their transition is quicker and easier than ours. They aren't as disconnected as humans.

I honestly see more light and love in a cats or dogs eyes then most people these days so I imagine they go to some sort of heaven as they are pure souls
