How viable is the dead internet theory?

I wanted to make this thread, because I feel like I've been noticing a lot of comments on mainstream social media that seem off.

I'm not talking about the obvious bot comments saying something like "Wow cool vid!" or "Nice pic," I'm talking about ones that just seem slightly off, like someone pretending to be a real human.

I've noticed an increase on comments that start by talking about the broad topic of the picture or video. For example, if there was a video on how to cook eggs, or a picture of a recipe, the comment would say something like this:

>Eggs are commonly enjoyed as a part of a nutritional breakfast by a high percentage of the population. Eggs can be enjoyed scrambled, fried, poached, or even added to other recipes to help cook a meal.

To me, these are blatantly bot comments, but then they seem to gather a ton of human replies too that go like "wow, thanks for the info, I love eggs!" Or something of the sort.

Obviously it could be any topic, but the comment never seems to offer any meaningful deduction or opinion, just a neutral statement on what the source material is providing.

My questions to you are; do you think some of these are actually humans who just lack the critical thinking capacity to provide insight, are the replies to such a comment also bots or real people falling for a bot, and what is the purpose of such comments if they aren't trying to push a scam or generate views, and why does nobody ever seem to call them out?

Even the most random, low-viewed media has these sort of comments on it these days.

What are your thoughts the dead internet theory, is it just random spammers or part of an agenda by the social media companies?

Any discussion would be welcome, as I feel like I'm going crazy noticing all these weird comments. I can't be the only one, right?

Maybe someone who has worked with these "bots" or these social media companies can reply. I'd love to know what really goes on.

Extremely viable, even before Ai, tons of bots and idiots, now Ai and idiots.
I would say that even a VC might have bots in it soon, or already has, unless you are playing a game and seeing the other person play, you might be viable to an Ai acting friendly to influence you. Wich is also why I think chatrooms and Voicechats will be bot filled soon. And socialization will move over to Ai, adding body language to social interactions is another filter for Ai, even if they can train a model on how a human move, that coupled with real time voice, and real time body movement, would be to expensive for what you get.
Writing a comment on a Youtube or Twitter channel is almost free.

I notice that the comments usually like to highlight the topic of the video in bold letters.

And the comment will be broken up randomly with douvle hyphens -- like this.

To me that is clear indication of AI use, but it makes me wonder if these are obvious plants to hide the more subtle bot comments that could pass as human.

Are the social media companies just trying to seem like they're busier than they actually are, to be more attractive to content creators? Is there anyone even in charge of the bots? Because 90% of the time they're not even trying to boost their own profile or channel, or even sell or advertise anything.

I am wondering these bots are just let loose on the Internet and told to act as human as possible, with no obvious goal or moritve in view.

That's a scary thought, some AI music is only detectable if you analyse the audio.

Makes you wonder if they can completely make up movie stars, celebrities, pop stars etc.

Combine this with the hologram technology they have now (remember when they brought Tupac "back to life"?), and you can't trust anything anymore.
>>
>>42711917
What you called double hyphens are em-dashes. Very common with AI as apparently most of the training material include them.
>Are the social media companies just trying to seem like they're busier than they are
Yes
>Is there anyone even in charge of the bots
Yes, could be any actor just trying to boost their shitty video, or an actor trying to influence opinions. Russians use this a lot but very poorly, and it is very common and easy to spot.

Who knows what techniques they use nowadays

Thanks for the reply, I will look into this.

I've seen creators complaining about it as well, worried that they will get banned.

Do you think they have a number of "normal" comments to train their AI chatbot on human interaction?
>>
I don't know if that's related or if I recently started noticing it but I now see a lot of typos in many comments. Writingk lik ethis. Skipping letters completely or skipping a couple of letters and merging it with the next word. Maybe it's just people becoming more retarded or just pressing autocomplete on their phones without checking though
>>
>>42712250
I must admit, I make a lot of spelling mistakes whilst phone posting. I think it's cause I use acronyms from the 2000s, so the word "to" sometimes becomes "tk" (like team kill, and vice versa for other ones.

Sometimes I feel like my auto correct just doesn't have a word in it though.
>>
>>42711823
I think it's extremely viable and I actually think using bots to influence is merely a good byproduct by those pushing all this. I think their primary goal is ultimate isolation, fear, distrust in your fellow human. I've noticed if I want to say something positive on something, I look back at my message and it really comes across as botlike. I think they've been engineering at least English to be like this for a long time.
>>42711900
>I would say that even a VC might have bots in it soon, or already ha
I talk on the phone a lot for work, it's pretty much there, the only thing that makes it discernable is how chipper they sound when representing a company. I'm sure ones meant to emulate real people in VCs have that turned off
>>42712250
People read less actual literature and many on the Internet have never not had auto correct(which is getting worse btw)

The Dead internet isn't just the bots. It's that the humans also act like bots.

Dead isn't really a proper term though since the internet is clearly living and acts like an organism. But Dead Internet is catchy so it sticks.
>>
Yes it is nost likely teal just go to a TikTok comment section and see tye same fucking joek related over and over again or go to Instagram and see a bunch of comment with blank pops no followers/following, i dont quite understand the endgoal to pollute the truth so you can be leave everything? Social media already does that so adding shitloads of bots wont make it any more true
>>
It is definitely dead, but I think it is much more disturbing if it it is demons, ghosts, and other paranormal beings LARPing both as human users abd bots/AI. This is probably what is happening.

Another creepy thing is the amount of 666s and references to my name.

But if people fall for it, then I don't think it causes mistrust. More like it just dumbs the population down.

>>42712575
Maybe people act like bots because they take learned behaviour from bots? Thy could be the end game. But it surprises me that these bots don't push an agenda

Maybe just making information junk and redundant is the end game in itself.

>>42712599
I don't understand it either because information is already pretty polluted. But maybe there re multiple actors using the same method to push different agendas, so we get overexposed to this bullshit. It really baffles me that nobody ever goes "that's such a bot comment" on the replies.

>>42712673
This poses an interesting theory, do you think they customise the bot comments on a user to user basis?

Sometimes I notice comments are missing if I view the replies. It could say something like 100 replies but you'll only see 90, for example. Tech companies wi say that's because spam comments re hidden, but they're clearly not. So re they picking nd choosing which comments to hide or show based on the users digital footprint?
>>
Isn't the internet now filled by more than 50% by bots? So organic replies should be getting smaller in percentage by the year.
>>
>>42711917
Facebook cloned accounts of dead people and post as them. They do it with real people too.

This isn't some theory anymore. It is very clear that there are now fully botted posts on places like reddit, and they get recommended on the home page, because someone bots thousands of comments and thousands of likes on them. AND the post itself may be an entirely AI generated video of some fail, like a person falling down and hurting themselves. Somehow all the few real comments then drown out all the way into the bottom, and then retarded people actually fall for the posts and boost them further. Also when you open a youtube app on a fresh playstation account on the console, you will get an influx of AI generated videos recommended to you, which may have even 0 views, and depending on the region the videos will be related to government propaganda like russia, china, US tech companies or military.
>>
>>42714241
This was an interesting read, basically human markets no longer exist and are out of control.

But there are people at the top that perpetuate this, so someone is responsible.
>>
>>42715855
Also, it is becoming increasingly common, for a sudden internet celebrity to rise into popularity on some platform, emerging from metrics that are not just a bit sketchy but 100% botted overnight and then riding the wave naturally from there. Some of these cases having an actual agenda behind it being funded by an oligarch.

>Also when you open a youtube app on a fresh playstation account on the console, you will get an influx of AI generated videos recommended to you, which may have even 0 views, and depending on the region the videos will be related to government propaganda like russia, china, US tech companies or military.
So I went and looked at this again, and I can't tell if it's botted or if it's just some weird side of boomer and low IQ youtube. Just endless videos of MAGAtard or pro russia videos with clickbait titles and thumbnails.

Compartmentalized internet filled with bots.

>open stocks tabs. Then open /pol/ and see 3 threads about money
>Open anime tabs. Then open /pol/ and see 2 pokemon threads
>watch youtube vid on vietnam. Then open /pol/ and the best thread with real humans is a thread on vietnam.

Somehow the internet is getting compartmentalized to prevent leaks of data, and most threads and comments are from bots.
>>
>>42711823
>media influencers use bots to boost channel view
>marketers use bots to sell ads and pad the page view numbers
>honeypots use bots to auto create threads, auto-moderate, comparmentalize users. Ultimately to control flow of information in society.

Examples of controlling information:
>one day hindu hate starting on the entire internet. It just flipped on one day, the change was very noticeable.
>one day coverage of USA in Iran just stopped. They stopped the flow of information.
>>
>>42711823
I heard there is a hate campaign against argentina with bots and algorithms.
>>
>>42714035

>This poses an interesting theory, do you think they customise the bot comments on a user to user basis?

Maybe no always, but they can. I mean I get content that is obviously aimed at me and is fresh off the griddle. Like I might look into a somewhat obscure thing, and then a person who hardly uploads does a video on that topic.
>>
>>42711823
I would goes as far as to say there are at least 5 bot comments on any controversial post on social media. These bots are designed to push the mainstream narrative and keep the collective from questioning if our government leaders are corrupt. You can find them everywhere. Good identifiers for bot accounts is having little to no posts on its main page or having very generic posting.
