The solomon's shamir was very likely a tool, albeit unknown or kept hidden to this day - although there have been efforts to recover or find it. For instance, the myths of the medusa [a women with snakes instead of hair who could petrify men] seem to have historical background as there was a legion of woman archers who had their hair laced with poison so that when arrows were pulled out of the quiver those became poisoned by going through the hair. So there seems to be some historical relevancy greater than just a myth or a bedtime story. Of course this might not be the case with the shamir, but many think there is. Funnily enough an energy weapon that paralyzes people is named medusa

I like the old "Phantom Airships" of the late 1890s in the US, mostly the western areas. It seems very likely that at least some of them were hoaxes and publicity stunts, and once the flap got going people reported things that are pretty obviously meteors and such. But the whole thing had enough bizarre elements that they're interesting to look into. There are overlaps with more modern UFo reporting, but elements that don;t match at all as well.

Made me kek as well. Something about the creature's dumb grin and the matter of fact 'a worm that eats rock.' written in elegant font just gets me.
>>
>>42727652
maybe they're trying to meme it into existence, knowing that reality is generated by whatever everyone agrees upon, and so if everyone agrees that a worm that eats rock is totally real for really real, it will suddenly appear one day.

however, unicorns got rebranded as horses with party hats instead of the good ol' wooly rhinoceros, and the behemoth got renamed to mammoth but its descendants lost the hair and grew big stupid ears. and the reality of dragons is actually kind of lame.

If the account is accurate, that's a real question. It's entirely possible that this occurred in the mesosphere or higher depending how big the craft were. If any went down from that high up the Vatican probably didn't even have a clue where to begin looking for crashes beyond a vague general direction. Even if they did find a craft, there was nothing back then that could transport anything beyond small debris, so I suspect that everything was recovered by the "participants" if anything remained.
>>42727186
>>42727617
Fascinating, that's a bit of a smoking gun. I wonder if it was the same incident from a different perspective? Nuremberg isn't far from Basel relatively speaking, so if it was high enough altitude they might have been looking at the same thing.

The anomalous part isn't that they weren't invented yet, it's that there were all these sightings in places where supposedly there weren't any, or no known companies were working on them. Places like Sacramento, California (in that picture), and Texas. So this has led to some discussion of something called the Sonora Aeroclub and the artistic work of Charles Dellschau and so on. It's actually a deep rabbit hole, it's not "lol but airships didn't exist yet!" it's "how were there all these airship sightings in the American west when no one was known to have any" and the collection of fantastical tales that surround such sightings, such as the communications had with occupants upon landing and so on.

Walter Bosley is one of the main guys researching this and publishing books on it right now. Opinions about him are divided but at least his work is a good place to start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STVD4qMYQWc

rabbits are descended from deer, hares descended from cows, jackalopes (the real ones, not fungal ear infections) are extinct intermediaries, and what they do different from their ancestors is tunnel underground and build warrens. they have that underground hell association, and rabbit-hole connotations.
why asian cultures associate rabbits with the moon, idk.

Me, I don't think it was either hysteria, sun dogs or a space war.

What is often overlooked is that there was a stretch there wher several other cities reportedly had sky battles over them (notably Strasbourg in 1554 and Basel in 1566, .>>42727617 is a broadsheet from the Basel incident.) The interpretation at the time was that the displays had deep religious meaning, good battling evil in the heavens, that sort of thing. I suspect these were largely published as religious tracts, with a little bit of "our city got a vision from God, too!" going on.

One of the earlier ones was the one at Strasbourg (pic related) which does look a lot like a display of sundogs. Then the Basel one was a bit later and added different colored balls and one-upped Strasbourg. The Nuremberg did theirs and added cannon-looking thinks and crosslets and the big spear head.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe for a decade interstellar warships fought regular battles over the Germanic cities of Europe, and put on a better show each time. And then stopped and didn't do this anywhere on Earth any more. But that seems unlikely.

Also notice that the Nuremberg image shows a couple of the spheres having crashed into Earth. You'd have hoped that some artifacts or even just other mentions of dealing with clearing up the extra-terrestrial debris left by a couple of crashed UFOs might have been preserved.

To me,this looks a lot like cities playing one-upmansip games, with the signs and wonders from God in MY city being better than the ones in your shitty city.

The American efforts to collect alien technology began in the 1800s.
In many other countries that effort began hundreds or thousands of years ago.

The decision to keep it away from the public was made very long ago.

>The solomon's shamir was very likely a tool

>Following this line of logic (anything that can be 'shown' something must have eyes to see), early Rabbinical scholars described the Shamir almost as a living being. Other early sources, however, describe it as a green stone. This is supported by contemporary scholars who believe that the Shamir was emery, a blue-green stone mined as an abrasive powder for thousands of years. The word emery comes from Koine Greek: σμύρις, romanized: smúris, which likely shares the same root as the Semitic shamir.

You mean for us, or whoever the victors were? I'd bet a shiny penny that we didn't get shit from that, as I suspect it was pretty high altitude. Even if we did get our hands on it, back then the best we'd be able to do is observe chemical reactions on the metal (if that) and/or try to melt it down and forge something else.
