For context, I come from a pilot lineage. Consider what this means: When the art was new, no one knew what kind of training would work. Natural talent decided who lived and who died. Then there were the myriad wars the US has been involved with in the past century. My own stock is specifically soldiers and test pilots, the most high risk categories. What this means is that I am the product of extreme evolutionary pressures that amplified existing genetic defects in my own breeding pool. And the result is horrible vestibular issues comparable in every way to Havana syndrome. That is: A functioning inner ear is a liability to pilots. Down must always be a derived concept, not a foundational concept, because in the air the human inner ear cannot report which way is down correctly. If you rely on it you will die. But this has a horrible consequence for me: Down is a foundational concept in human biology, a pure and honest signal from the environment, and so all other senses are calibrated around it. Instead I must constantly re-derive down by looking for the orientation that makes my senses resolve into something I can comprehend. My ears are broken. I hear very little and listen very intently. My eyes are broken. They do not focus correctly unless I manually focus them moment-by-moment. My balance is broken. I must always re-derive down from my other broken senses. And yet to the world I present as a functioning and highly competent man. I will share my secret with you all, so that you might use it to build yourselves up.That is the shape and limit of my authority.
>>42752653Consider these scene from Memphis Belle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNdpxi9F1AAPilots are taught to navigate by finding three landmarks. Any fewer, and they could easily be fooled about their location, run out of fuel, and have no place to land. This is considered diligence. But I consider it laziness because it assumes clear conditions. In that Memphis Belle scene, the bomber squadron had already turned around once because the smoke screen stopped them from identifying their target. The bombardier is using his memory of the map he saw during the mission briefing to try to identify the target. He's looking for three landmarks, like he was trained, but he can't see through the smoke screen because he ONLY knows to look for three landmarks. But I remember the entire map from the mission briefing, and I'm constantly just looking through the smoke screen. I do not use three landmarks. I use ten thousand landmarks. My entire life is the tension of this scene played out again and again, without end: Either turn around and try another approach, or bombs away. There is no middle ground. Hesitation means death. Everything distills to this fact because my senses have such an impenetrable smoke screen in front of them, and no one around me can comprehend what it's like to exist this way and still succeed in the world. I offer my own writing composition as evidence of my competence in other fields. But this hypervigilance is foundational to me. I grew up around pilots and soldiers and convicted murderers, who are used to dealing with this kind of thing AT ALL. My father's traumas became my eyes and my ears and my place on the ground, and I grew up strong because he taught me how he protected his wounds. So the lesson to learn, in short: Actively used senses, even when mutilated beyond repair, are always superior to passively used senses.
>>42752657Seek out pilots and soldiers. Put aside your civilian notions, and ask to learn from them what it means to make a decision when you have barely any information. Seek out the people who do not tolerate the lethal games of make-believe that civilians play. Seek out the people who remember how brutal this world is. People who take their words and turn them into their flesh.Reject the Gilgameshes of the world, who would rape your wives, and seek the Enkidus of the world, who would fight on your behalf to protect your wives.

>>42752653>Actively used senses, even when mutilated beyond repair, are always superior to passively used senses.Paying attention is indeed better than not paying attention when action is required. My apologies that you cannot live up to the accomplishments of even your recent ancestors. There haven’t even been enough generations since Kitty Hawk for extreme evolutionary pressure on anybody kek. You just suck but apparently your grandparents were cool. That’d be my biggest secret but hey, you do you and frame it as esoteric knowledge.
>>42752653The first pilot was like a 100 years ago. Are you saying the evolutionary has evolved to have entirely removed the functional inner ear of your groups subset? How many legacy pilot families exist?I can understand snipers benefiting from color blindness because the Hunter-Gatherer era over 12 or so millenia, but pilots? When do you think airplanes were invented?
