The CIA spearheaded the creation of a real life "SCP Foundation". However whenever an SCP (not talking about the UFOs) was encountered, they'll either support private citizens exterminating it, or they'll exterminate the anomalous creature themselves. Ultimately because of the cleansing, their projects were mostly defunded and then officially defunct.

The energies the creatures had when they were killed is why the sea ice has melted away so much, and we don't know how to stop it now.
