The date by which when they started vary but there are two theories. One that it started in 1911 and the other in 1898, though they both agree that it ended in 1912. The latter theory stems from the book "The Man From the Train". Perhaps the most well-known literature about the case.The crimes were identified as done by a single guy due to the modus operandi. Mass murder of the entire family, often times crushed by the blunt side of an axe, targeting of the face, sexual assault of the females, but the most important one is how the crimes were done at homes that were close to the train tracks. Which people suspected was how he managed to escape after doing his crimes. The number of victims ranges from 24 at minimum to 94 at maximum. Some tried to connect other murders to him but there is hardly any connection there.
