I read The God Delusion when I was 11 and became a fedora-wearing atheist debater type.
I have since invited God into my life and am on the path to salvation.
There remains an argument that I cannot defeat logically, causing me cognitive dissonance. It's a supposed refutation of the ontological argument for the existence of God:
>Imagine the best or perfect thing or person you can think of
>You are imagining God
>Now consider that this person or thing exists - it is more perfect and good than something which doesn't exist
>Therefore God exists, both in your imagination and in the world.

The refutation out forward by some philosopher and retold by Dawkins goes like this:
>Imagine God once more
>God created everything and suffused everything with His being, yes?
>Wouldn't this God be greater still if He could create everything and suffused it with His being despite not even existing?

This has troubled me for a while now... If somebody could please furnish me with a strong counterargument, I would be grateful.

I believe that God created logic and argumentation so that we can use our faculties of reason and so on in order to understand Him and the beautiful world He has made. So I want to believe that there is a solid way to reach Him through reason. Most of Aquinas' argument for His existence sit well with me, except for this one - the ontological argument - because of this apparent refutation. Can someone help me?

Imagine god, now imagine something even greater, voila you've imagined God. Any argument that begins with "imagine" is a retarded argument. Dawkins make the most stupid comparisons with the most possibly retarded names "muh teapot muh spaghetti monster" His attempts at humor are cringe as fuck. Maybe that works in old Britain, I don't know. Being a biologist and all, why doesnt protest against genital mutilation in babies? Anyone can shit on Islam
>>
>>42814194
>Anyone can shit on Islam
Which is funny since Islam is a lot more internally consistent and its premise allows its believers to basically respond to any attempt at refutation with: "see, the idea is that God is right at all times, so we don't ask 'why?', we ask 'what for?'". Meaning unlike Christians, Muslims don't think God has to align their values, no, THEIR values have to align with God's, including the child brides and slave-owning of infidels. Motherfuckers pray five times a day, that's not shit you can easily shake (the ones that don't make themselves quickly apparent and can be easily brainmogged out of their faith, see them all the time in college).

Abrahamic Religion is poison.

I don't belueve in God, but if you're relying on logic based on and grounded in our physical experience to try and explain something that can/does sit inside of it, you're always going to fall short.

Its like trying to use use maths to explain a colour or a feeling.

Well we no if something didn't exist it wouldn't interact in a way that would give notice to it's being. Even in God case the whole reson we know of him is he wanted to have us see what's been done. The lack of presence would have had it name to any other thing that had the will to
claim as much. What we know of God and what
we can imagine is far inferior to what God is as it is written we have not even considered what God can and will give so while we may have an idea of what good God can be and can even think higher then that God is something we have no references to what really is available to ask to see. I think it comes from people believing that this is it when its hard to think of moving part outside your horizon
>>
Honestly I don't even have an idea of what a "perfectly good God" is supposed to be or look like. Because any idea I can come up with as "good" I can put holes in myself. Do I say then "there's no such thing as good"? Well, only insofar as the limit of my mind can take me I guess. Would be pretty fucking stupid if, hairless ape that I am, decide that I alone have the credentials to universally decide what good is when I share 99% of my DNA with gorillas and chimps.

>This has troubled me for a while now... If somebody could please furnish me with a strong counterargument, I would be grateful.
lol This guy is literally asking someone to help him lie to himself. He went from a person who had critical thinking skills, because he is aware of what cognitive dissonance is, but he is doing exactly what a sheep does which is appealing to post-hoc rationalization. Like, he is experiencing cognitive dissonance because he knows that christianity and God as christians promote it is a lie and a contradiction, right? But instead of Instead of fixing the contradiction by realizing that christianity is BS or acepting that christianity is BS, he is actively asking for a specific narrative to justify it. This is so fucking lame, dude. You were on the right track all along since a very early age, but somehow you are now trying to delule yourself to believe in christianity. Nobody can help you, dude. WHen a chrsitian comes here he won't be helping you. He will be pushing you even further towards a deception and a lie. Man, this is depressing. I feel for those who were beign able to realize the truth, only to get deceived in the end. It sucks. Christianity is a curse upon the human race.

Im not sure 11 year old fedora wearing atheist debaters are a "type"

There's something called Faith, which is a Christian virtue, which you need to understand before thinking this way about Christians.

Faith is essentially the deliberate and progressive increase of energy towards the purpose of
>Believing in God
>Establishing and then continuing the practice of prayer
>Pursuing experiences of the divine
>Living the way that God requires of us
>Sharing the Good News of the Resurrection
>Ultimately manifesting God's Kingdom on Earth
As a person progressed through these stages, they have more and more revealed to them from divine sources.

Deliberately pursuing the practice of a life of Faith is one of the things Christians are expected to do,band their gatherings, in Church and elsewhere, are ways to gather and channel communal energies for this purpose.

A person who chooses to tie Faith to Reason, the way the people of the Renaissance and Enlightenment did, is choosing in some ways an even harder path.

You must realize that, from a Christian perspective, seeking out and creating arguments for the existence of God is aligned with the continuing evolution and increase in Faith. So actually it's not about creating a self-consistent belief system (although it's something that does happen), it's actually about aligning the soul and all ones experiences and beliefs under the umbrella of what they call God.

Not OP but what's the truth you believe in? Let's hear it so I can dismantle it regardless of what it is. Because I hate faggots like you even more than the ones like OP. The high horse ones. The ones who think their beliefs are infallible
>>
>>42814416
Quite a lot of people don't believe in a single truth, but a whole body of belief they identify with for a decade or so and then forget about.

Usually it's some blend of political and religious beliefs which may as well have been chosen randomly at the population level

Remember when hating Israel was a far-right thing? And now the far-left hates Israel because of what they're doing in Palestine?

Remember how the side of the political spectrum that isn't in power is always accusing the other side of being pedos?

Remember how when the side of the political spectrum that isn't in power causes a public nuisance, there's a crackdown by those in power... But when, inevitably, they are no longer in charge, they stage their own chimpouts? Oh sure, they'll rationalize it within the purview of their own apparent belief system, but ultimately it's a sublimation of the primal instincts in each of us to depose apparently unjust rulers.

When was the last historical moment when there was a consensus as to who should be leaders and what they should do? Me neither. There are kings, sultans and Pharaohs known to history as "the Great", "the Magnificent", "the Terrible"... How can we know?
>>
>>42814470
A lot of that when you could have just said "nothing". Meaning you are the worst kind of high horse rider: the unprincipled, all-sanctimonius faggot too scared to even be possessive of convictions let alone fight for them. Holy fuck. How do you live life being an entirely vapid creature that's paradoxically full of hubris? You just invalidated everything you said to the other faggot that made this thread.

I am the faggot who made this thread.

Right is why the old testament law was put in place it set the line in the sand of what is good and evil. The good we want is the good we can give to other like wise to evil we come across came be done by us aswell. To know what is good we have to find how its been corrupted from what it originally was.
>>
>>42814089
>I want to believe that there is a solid way to reach Him through reason.
I fundamentally disagree this is possible.
God made it so no amount of material observation of reasoning will approach him.
That's the point of this realm - to be able to pretend God doesnt exist - and God made it perfectly.
Except He didnt really "make" it - it has simply eternally been.
Just like you are eternal.
Because you and this place are both parts of that Eternal God.
>>
>>42814089
If it doesn’t exist, it’s not a thing to be measured in any sense - whether that be height, goodness, greatness, etc. So non-existent-God-that-can-create wouldn’t be greater because he wouldn’t be a thing to begin with that could be compared to an existent God that can create

imagine trying to drink soup with a knife.
why are you trying to apply mind/intellect/reasoning to something that transcends it and mogs it?

do you not understand the meaning behind "ineffable" or "transcendental"?
do you not get the hint of the sages, that the eternal tao can not be communicated, those who know, don't talk bout it and those who don't know it, talk about it?

isn't God's name (read: identity) "ineffable".

you think these cringe atheist mental gymnastics have any bearing on reality, at all, whatsoever?
you still have some growing up to do. you are reduced to operating from a logical/reasonable mode of operation.

while the intellect is a fine tool, especially these days, you have to realize that it is a tool and not the end all be all to all things.
there are far greater tools than the intellect, for example intellect gets mogged so hard by intuition and by that, i mean real intuition and not modern day snowflake appropriation.
the buddhists call it "direct sight" or "seeing clearly".
the rational person has to make a logical chain, going from A -> B -> C -> D, with a starting point, a few steps and the final destination.
with clear seeing, there are no steps. you jump from A to D. heck, you don't even jump off of A, you are immediately at D.
and it is not subject to criticism, it can not be debunked or it is not a mere approximation, which later needs to be refined as more factors are revealed (which is an endless process, hence science will never truly arrive at real truths, just eternally approximate).

you should explore the mental planes, using mind altering substances. you will understand how much bigger the universe is beyond the little pocket we have here, which is consistent and subject to some logic/cause and effect/etc.

look into the work of Dr. Dean Radin or Dr. Rupert Sheldrake to get you off of your rigid worldview, pry open your brain to the impossible, miracles etc.

In a nutshell this is the truth. Argue with it however you would like. The world was absolutely perfect. Everyone had access to limitless potential. There were no carnivores. There was no lack. Everyone had a perfect soulmate. This existence went on forever and ever. Mankind got so advanced they were at the level of each of them being a reality itself considering themselves "god". Then after eons upon eons that you can't even count cause it would take infinity years to count the paradises they created one of them went nuts and that one was what we call satan. They went crazy doing stuff no one had ever done that was evil and started torturing the original reality they started in for fun and pleasure. Then they figured out that they could create a soul from that reality that would allow perfect torture of what they considered God (that reality with a soul).
>>
>>42815727
Well they wanted that soul and they tortured reality trying to get it and the moment they were about to reality incarnated itself as the only solution and boom we're here with mankind as they originally were but those "reality" level demons are now incarnated as people trying to kill God.

>islam is internally consistent
Except for the part where it tells Christians to judge the Kuran based on what they have already received (the Bible) but if you do that then you’ll see that the Kuran contradicts the Bible which means Christians must reject it.
>erm, the kuran is referring to a secret gospel written by Jesus that was lost!
Except that the kuran also says that the apostles of Christ were Godly and successful in their mission of spreading the word of ‘allah’

You need to read this post:

https://reddit.com/r/conspiracy/s/ierNRINBCy
>TLDR:

>This planet is Bozrah, not Earth. What's more, you should be warning people about the upcoming "day of vengeance" here on Bozrah. Keep in mind that the 1,000-year Millennial Kingdom will take place on Earth, not on Bozrah. This planet will be destroyed (and Jesus will be the destroyer). It has no future.

>Bozrah is basically a replica of Earth. People who have lived here their entire lives NEED to realize—once and for all—that this celestial body was never Earth, and it never will be. It's an impostor planet. And if you have an issue with that, take it up with God, not me. I just speak the truth (nothing more, nothing less).

>Bozrah's human anatomy is distinct enough from Earth's human anatomy that the differences allow me to know, with 100 percent certainty, that this is a different planet. Not 99.99 percent certainty, but literally 100.00 percent certainty. On top of all of that, the speed of time here is a blazing 50 percent faster compared to Earth! Yes, you read that correctly: fifty percent faster (as in 1.5x speed, and thus a day on this planet is only 16 Earth hours long). So, forget about all of the anatomical differences for just a moment; the time difference ALONE allows me to know, with 100 percent certainty, that this is a different planet. Now, ask yourself the following question: Is God not watching each and every person who tries to debunk these differences?

>You, the Bozrah native, are the one who has been deceived. Not me. God didn't send me to the other side of the Milky Way Galaxy just for you to tell me that I have been deceived. You are the one who was born on an impostor planet. Not me.

>Update: In June 2026, a Reddit admin deleted my main Bozrah post! It had been up for over four years and was last edited in May 2025. It now exists as an X article. The redpill post will take you to my pinned X thread, which will then take you to the article.
>>
>>42816169
And this post as well:

https://reddit.com/r/conspiracy/s/QbBZhTQQN2
>Bottom line: This planet is Bozrah, not Earth. Moreover, the event in which Jesus destroys this planet is called "the day of vengeance." There will be no 7-year Tribulation or Antichrist here—because this isn't Earth. Earth is roughly 75,000 light-years from here (and is currently going through the Tribulation). This is merely an impostor planet, a physical replica designed to serve two purposes: (1) a containment realm for a particular bloodline (namely, the Edomites), and (2) a temporary sanctuary for select individuals (namely, the elect or "remnant of Israel") who were raptured from Earth prior to the start of the Tribulation.

>By the way, the thing that I'm referring to as "Bozrah" is not a symbolic concept. It's not an eschatological metaphor. It's not an allegorical parable. It's the physical, corporeal planet you're currently residing on. And unless you confront that fact head-on, you'll remain in total darkness (fully deceived by the illusion). So, in regard to our current location, let me be very clear: This planet was never Earth, and it never will be.
>>
>>42814089
How about instead of imagining things, you just read the bible and return to the hebrew text for the exact meaning, and go by that instead?
Making things up yourself means nothing. Moreover, in jewish kabbalah as well as in islam, God is beyond human understanding. Whatever you understand, isn't God. It's just your idea. So your reasoning is never valid.
