Witches generate the directions, the elements, the letters and words, especially old ones, nature, trees and so on.

Look at this: a common witch symbol. It represents the Triple Goddess: Maiden (Waxing Crescent), the Mother (full moon) and the Crone (waning Crescent). They're in order of appearance in the sky.

Clearly they represent different things, though.
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit aren't the stages on the life cycle of a man or a woman; they're not the man, woman and child of Egyptian mythology, and they're also not the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer of reality.

They're "trinities" in the sense of three parts that make a whole, but they're not even remotely equivalent if you take it seriously.

People in the 19th Century reinterpreted the religions of the world, as it was slowly being discovered/conquered/colonized by Christian nations, along Christian lines. This is basically why there are so many proponents of the use of terms like "universal religion" or "perennial philosophy". Yes, there are commonalities, but really the Westerners using these terms are essentially reducing radically different and often irreconcilable religious systems into basically Christian terms.

The only people I see who avoid this trap are Ken Wilber's Integral people, who built their own system along terms dictated by both Western science and their own experiences deeply pursuing the different paths. That's why there are "Buddhist Integralists", "Christian Integralists", "Taoist Integralists", and so on

Magic is mostly about setup.
Anything can be an element for a spell or interference, also position and timing matters too, just like setting up a cellular automata.
Many physical mechanical principles are not communicating between eachother belief that the exact effects will take place as well as the correct setup is needed.
if you want to spark a flam you need to KNOW that you will spark a flame as well as the right setup, but the setup at the same time can be anything, just like you could set up a cellular automata and end up with the same result.
The biggest question we still haveabout magic is why we need concious belief for the effects to manifest, for now we just know it works.
It's also why the earliest witches were stuck with simple stuff since we're basically throwing stuff at a wall ans see what sticks, we now mapped out some of the principles and how and when in the evolving chaos of a reaction the spell will pull out its effects to manifest.

Wicca is a branch of western esotericism founded by Gerald Gardner. He was a Rosicrucian/nudist/occultist who met Crowley and believed in the (now discredited) theory that surviving witch covens have existed all over the world for thousands of years.

Most of Wicca’s rituals come from golden dawn rituals with a sort of folksy neopagan flavor, but it’s the same basic technology.
