I am planning a book on practical magic covering theory of what magic is and showing that practical magic is possible, including techniques from my own practice and touching on some notable historical and contemporary theories and schools from Europe and Asia. I have formulated a working definition and theory showing that magic is real and achievable without supernatural intervention or defying the laws of physics but can be useful outside of any spiritual or religious framework.

I'm gathering materials for research which include some of Crowley's work, books by Peter J Carroll, and Agrippa. I want to look into the Greek Magical Papyri but it's a very expensive book for a good translation. I am particularly interested in scholarship and primary sources of the Norse, Gaelic, and Anglo-Saxon traditions as well as Germanic, Roman, and ancient Greek sources and scholarship thereon. I am curious about Asian traditions and practices; I have studied Zen somewhat but want to keep it secular.

My goal is to articulate a rigorous definition and cohesive theory founded in ontology, epistemology, phenomenology, logic and objective fact with reproducible techniques useful to any practitioner and perhaps some reference to the philosophy of mathematics.

On the offchance it gets written and read, I would like to deliver magic into the hands of people who labor under a scientistic and materialist view of the world and the mind despite being otherwise good thinkers as well as reinforce the extant arcane library of adepts.

Any suggestions for my research as well as general magical discussion would be welcome, and feel free to share your personal practice as adepts. I have an appointment this afternoon but will be on throughout the afternoon and evening sharing some of my technique and dumping what /x/ humor I have.

Maybe but if i at least do some reading and writing I will be able to distinguish "practicing" from being lost in a schizo trance and being delusional, so I can snap out of it or take the backup meds.

Why? Really, why? Are you doing it for yourself? Do you think someone else actually wants to read it? Do you intend to cause an effect somehow?

And you don't think they already have all the access to the world's esoteric works online right now?

Are you at least old? If you're writing a book before you're 40, you're probably an egotistical retard.

For myself to have an esoteric project and something to write about, work my philosophy muscles and apply my thoughts to something novel. Something to read for as well.

I think scientists and engineers, even doctors, can be a little slow witted and closed minded particularly as we enter into the age of AI. A lot is expected of these people and they are in general people of goodwill.

Besides, more tools available to more people and higher consciousness, sharper minds should go toward the greater good.

Plus the fat stacks of —cash—.

I don't really expect any readership if I do write but it's a daydream that more STEM educated people could be less boring.

Anon, don't even think about other people when writing this. You want my real advice?

Just write something down for YOUR SELF. Write your own thoughts, your own beliefs, your own experience. I sincerely doubt you'll make it to page 20 before you start realizing so many things that you should have been blatantly aware of about your self, that you never articulated before.

In my case, when I started writing my grimoire, by chapter 7 I realized that the ENTIRETY of my logic systems run on the 5 words of Leichtenaur and a vor/nach system and have since I started training with a sword at around age 10. Didn't expect that, though not that surprised.

It's now the foundation of my next book.

I had a math professor with a bunch of footnotes in that vein taped to his door.
One I can distinctly remember was

Buddy, Peter J Carroll attempting to shoehorn physics and maths into a discussion of magic was what being lost in a schizo trance and being delusional looked like. Slopping a veneer of "scientistic and materialist" respectability on a schizo trance doesn't make it stop being a schizo trance. But you know what? If you're gonna be in a schizo trance, at least be honest about it. {ick a lane.

You might also be able to use a memory palace to astral project, you need at least 15 filled loci if you're a beginner, less if you use the chain methods (you just need at least 15 images packed across and arbitrary number of loci less than 15) altho more is better as you can avoid going back around

Very achievable and real. Ritual magic is the laymen's way though.
I think as long as you stay away from satanic rituals you'll be fine.

Happy exploring

If you want a condensed info on magic in theory and practice, just pick up "Circles of Power" by John Michael Greer. It's much more approachable than any of the source material books that people like to recommend

Do you know if brownies (fairy, like hobgoblins) are real? Getting one in your household would seem like a practical use of magic, they're said to help with household chores at night.

I recently read an interesting book on Mexican magic, thought that would be outside of your preferred geographical area. It was called "The Magic and Mysteries of Mexico" by Lewis Spence.
